About the Author
Charles Hadden Spurgeon was born in 1834 in Kelvedon, Essex and became the pastor of the New Park Street Chapel in London by the age of 20. His ministry and popularity grew so quickly that his congregation was moved to Exeter Hall, Surrey Musical Hall, and finally the Metropolitan Tabernacle to accommodate his 10,000 person audiences. From the pulpit, Spurgeon connected with his working-class congregations using their language and everyday experiences to illustrate the gospel teachings. Since 1854, he published his sermons weekly selling as many as 25,000 copies per sermon. Spurgeon died in France in 1892 as one of the world's best-known preachers. ROY H. CLARKE is a retired international marketing executive who has immersed himself in the study of Spurgeon for more than 10 years. He was also the editor of Spurgeon's Morning and Evening, Updated Edition.
Customer Reviews
A wonderful blessing
As Charles Haddon Spurgeon preached he often looked into the eyes of hurting and bewildered parishioner and responded with words of comfort. Spurgeon's words are the words of this book. These pasages are characterized by Spurgeon's rare ability to put deep truths into simple language with rich. warm, spiritual tones. Spurgeon's words reach across the years and speak to today's hurting, struggling, bewildered, and depressed people. His answers are still valid.
If you are facing difficulties, this book is for you.
Beside Still Waters Words of Comfort for the Soul
We were given this book during one of the lowest points of our life. Both my wife and I have been encouraged and comforted by this resource. In turn we have given this book to more than a dozen friends as they have encountered difficulties. All who read it seem to be strengthened and encouraged.
