Product Description

"Whether they are bumping about our attics, hitchhiking on a moonlight road, or fraternizing with our reflections, ghosts tantalize us with their secrets." --Leslie Rule

Meet Leslie Rule--America's real-life ghost hunter with a penchant for sharing authentic, spine-tingling stories of the paranormal.

The Gallup Organization reports that more than 32 percent of Americans have seen a ghost. More than half the population believes in the spiritual, cosmic, or supernatural. To Leslie Rule, such revelations come as no surprise. Rule has spent more than a decade researching specters and spirits and has chronicled her ghostly tales in three previous titles, Coast to Coast Ghosts, Ghosts Among Us, and When the Ghost Screams.

Inside Ghost in the Mirror, Rule documents more than dozens of stories of paranormal apparitions that reveal themselves on the other side of the looking glass. Rule's painstaking archival research presents factual clues to each haunting, along with her own dramatic black-and-white photographs that capture the eerie unrest of the scenes she explores.

More Ghosts less Theories3
This books covered real life encounters with the paranormal mainly in the USA. I found the encounters interesting and enjoyable. Unfortunately they were hardly the star of the show. Too often then not the encounters that are mentioned has no historical research to back them up. Instead you get the author's theory on what is going on. A good example of this is in Chapter 1, Restless Nights. A young boy sees a ghost of a woman without pupils in her eyes carrying a basket. Leslie the postulates that ghost could be a blind woman from a school teaching basket weaving for the blind. The only evidence she shows for this is a school in Batavia New York 400 plus miles from the haunting site. She shows no evidence of such a school within closer distance of the haunting or a woman from that school living nearby. So all we are left with is guess and no hard evidence. This repeats itself throughout the book. A couple more examples would be that of a ghost girl being a possible victim of an epidemic to ghosts in a closed tobacco company having a possible origin in disease. Once again this is just the author theorizing and no connection with actual facts. That is not saying these places are not haunted just that the reason is unclear.

The other thing I had a problem with is focusing on the investigators. This is a book about ghosts not those who hunt them. While a book about these people could be warranted and quite interesting, bringing them up here only distracts from the subject matter. This also leads into her putting forth modern ghost theories and techniques. Once again this steers away from the subject matter and into the realm of current belief.

To me a ghost story is about the human drama of those who have gone on and the drama of those who are alive who witness the past via the hauntings. When this book focuses on that it shine but as I have said too often it ignores for the author's own theories and stories of the investigators.

Riveting Book!5
I am fascinated by Leslie Rules latest book, and appreciate the time and research she has put into this. What a remarkable book, and so downright bone chilling at times! Reading her latest book actually got me thinking of what have been ghostly encounters in my own life. I have read all of Leslie's books, and am a huge admirerer of her work. I have to read straight through! I am so thankful for creative people such as Leslie Rule, and will continue to read her books with delight.

True ghost stories5
Leslie Rule's fourth book relating true cases of hauntings is a compelling read. I don't read much non fiction but when I do, this is exactly the kind of book I like to seek my teeth into. At first, I was skeptical about the subject of ghosts in mirrors; how many stories of a ghost in the mirror can you put in a book before it becomes tedious? The author proved me wrong with her chronicling of a diverse selection of real cases of spirit encounters. It made for a spooky and sometimes uplifting read.

Leslie Rule's writing style makes it easy to turn the pages and I found myself chomping through the book furiously, chapter after chapter. She covers it all, from all across the US, exploring hauntings through the eyes of children, in hospitals, on the road, in windows, in places of business, hotels and in her own home. I've always believed in ghosts and although I've never actually seen or heard one, I've felt their presence on a few occasions when I was a child. Reading about all these accounts just reaffirmed that the dead do sometimes linger here on earth among us. None of the cases are embellished or rendered scarier; Rule sticks to the facts. There are very few cases of poltergeists as most ghosts tend to be satisfied to merely amble about, rarely manifesting themselves for more than a few seconds. Some of the ghosts in this book are just flat out terrifying and reading about them gave me gooseflesh. It was also uplifting to read about some people's encounters with specters of their kin assuring them that everything was fine. The warmth radiated through the pages in these instances. The author also documents cases where ghosts don't even know that they are dead. Ghost in the Mirror is also filled with pictures of haunted locations and people who have encountered spirits.

Whether you're fascinated by ghosts and paranormal phenomena or just looking for realistic accounts of ghostly encounters, Ghost in the Mirror is worth your time. The author has done a good deal of research to put this book together and it shows. A highly recommended read.
