Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
When Mrs. William Astor dictates that New York society refuse to attend a coming-outcoming-out? ball for the Irish Mara Sheridan, her nouveau riche brother Trevor (called "The Predator" on Wall Street) decides to ruin as many of the Four Hundred as possible. One of his victims, however, is the highly pedigreedp. 8 and well-intentioned Alana Van Alen, who tried unsuccessfully to thwart her grasping uncle Baldwin Didier and attend the ball. When Alana's fortune is destroyed by Trevor, Baldwin dumps his impoverished niece on the Sheridans' doorstep. Trevor blackmails her into marriage: Mara will secure social acceptance and a husband, and in return Alana will receive financial security. Alana accepts, as she secretly supports her sister Christabel (who is thought responsible for their parents' deaths but suffers from amnesia). Love inevitably and incredibly results between Trevor and Alana. Despite McKinney's ( Till Dawn Tames the Night ) flaunting of her research, the historical setting is unconvincing, full of exaggerations, errors (Alana's gloves wouldn't actually have had 15 buttons at the wrist)p. 39 and omissions (notably, the period's super-snob Ward McAlister). Wonderful!!!5
First, to all of the other reviews, I have no idea what they were thinking. this book had it all. In all the years that I have been reading books, I never felt my hear tflutter as it did with this one. Trevor is a true romantic, his speech in the end of this book proved that. He loved his sister, yes, and because he didn't want her to be hurt he went to great lengths. Alana loved him and he clearly loved her but he had to get over the awful things that he had done ot her and really open up so that he could love.

AMAZING!5
Lions and Lace is an amazing romance novel. From start to finish Meagan McKinney writes and conveys such strong feelings of innocense, betrayal, love, confusion and lust... and not necessarily in that order. The hero, Trevor Sheridan is a brooding, dark and unforgiving character. But behind this facade, he is just looking for love and acceptance. When he meets the New York socialite Alana Van Alen, it's not only a case of convenient revenge on the Knickerbockers of the NY elite but also a struggle against the magnetic attraction. It is through their hurt and mutual pain that you grow the know these characters and even hope that they overcome the obstacles and recognize the love between them. It's an emotional roller coaster.. Highly recommend. If you're looking for a light hearted sweet romance... this isn't the book for you. But if you want a book to touch your soul... this is it.

I can read it over and over!5
This is a book I read several years ago and usually re-read once or twice a year. It is romance at its best. I found Trevor to be the hero most romance authors should try to emulate. He is smart, powerful, sexy, but he is also caring and vulnerable. He is adorable! Alana is a heroine you can really root for. You really hope that she gets her man and he can help her put her life in order. The secondary characters are excellent, expecially Mara. This book really is an excellent example of romance writing at its best.
