So Different! So Erotic! So Sexy!5
This book was erotic and sexy with the simplicity that when both characters, Tom and Sarah locked eyes even that became sexy! Describing how Tom walked "from behind the curtain in a loin cloth, sat down and draped a knee over the arm of the chair, exposing his inner thigh up to his groin".(that was sexy!) The sadness and lonliness in Sarah's heart after the death of her husband in the war coupled with the horrific, sad and frightening life and beautiful body of Tom made a wonderful story! It was like nitroglycerine and a fuse coming together - you had an explosive, sexual and erotic coming together of 2 people who needed one another. Although Tom was created to be a freak in a carnival and to the other people who met him when he escaped - only Sarah saw the beauty of his body. Everything was so well described by the author I found myself trying to slow down reading this book in order to savor every word! This story was so different - yet the author captured the sorrow, the need, the abuse of Tom, and the sexual want in Sarah that was awakened by merely being in Tom's presence, in the simplest of dialogue that left me wanting more, and more! It was a fabulous and erotic story!

Simple yet lovely...4
The writing is vey simple, and for being billed as an erotic romance there is nothing overly erotic in Bone Deep, love scenes, yes, but not what you'd expect. The story and the love built between the main characters is what makes this a beautiful read. The story of a tatooed man, a modern (ala 1940's) woman, and a biased farm community is well crafted. Think shades of HBO's Carnival and combine it with grandma's girl power post war life and add a twist of bible belt small community. Bone Deep is definetly worth reading if you get your hands on it.

Draws you into another time and place5
"Bone Deep" is an almost allegorical tale of a man labeled 'freak' and set outside the bounds of so-called normal society by his tattooed skin. A widowed farm wife takes on the responsibility of hiding and protecting this stranger from the evil carnival owner who has held him prisoner. Of course, the pair become romantically involved and discover depths of love and passion that give them the strength to stand against convention.
The post WWII time period is well-described and allows the reader to believe in the possibility of the tale. One can almost hear the music of the carnival carousel and smell the popcorn, or hear a Glenn Miller tune drifting through the air.
The erotic scenes are intense and heartfelt.
The bigoted, narrow mindset is typical of the time--and is sometimes still be witnessed in the world today. The story definitely gives the reader something to mull over.
