25th Anniversary Edition - Library Binding

Product Description

A modern classic that continues to prove no color is finer.

Young Kelly's mom doesn't understand about red. Sure, the brown mittens are warmer, but the red mitts make better snowballs. And the red boots aren't just for rain; they take bigger steps in any weather. And, yes, a red cup does make a difference... juice just doesn't taste as good in a green one. No doubt about it, red is best.

Kathy Stinson's classic tale of one toddler's obstinate color preference has been charming readers for 25 years. With over 275,000 copies in print, Red is Best has steadily marched its way to become a children's book classic. Now a new generation of readers can discover Stinson's insistent young heroine, aptly captured in the simple drawings of Robin Baird Lewis -- each one punctuated by the right dazzle of red.

With its plucky charm presented in a redesigned interior, and a special cover commemorating the book's 25th anniversary, the re-release of Red is Best is sure to be a red-letter day.

Red is Boring1
I so wanted to like this book. Like most toddlers, my son has definitely color preferences when it comes to his clothes. When I saw this book, I was really looking forward to reading it to him.
I like the idea of the story, but this book just fell short. The illustrations are really simple - just a picture of the girl against a white background - mostly done in black/white, except for the red item being described on the page.
I think the author and illustrator could have done SO MUCH more with this story idea.
This book didn't hold my son's interest AT ALL. Luckily, we tried this one from the library first.

Do check out the page samples in the product picture above. Looks like someone has uploaded a couple picture samples from the book.

awesome book5
I discovered this book in the late 80's when my kindergarten teacher read it to us. I liked it so much that I begged my grandma to buy it for me when we were shopping. I had a fascination with the colour pink back then so I could relate. I would only drink my milk or juice in my pink cup and no other, and only sleep if I had my pink blanket and stuff like that just as in this book with red.

For everyone who's Mom has never quite understood them!5
This was one of my favourites as a child, and now that I've reached the ripe old age of 19, I still read it now and then. This book is brilliantly written from a kid's point of view (i.e. "juice tastes better in the red cup"), so all kids will enjoy it. I thought it was a nice touch that Kelly's mom lost patience about having everything red. That is SO true!

And just for the record, my red sweater keeps me warmer, my red mitts make better snowballs, my red shoes make my feet dance, my red socks make my toes wiggle.....
