Worth its Weight in Gold
For such a small book, this packs quite a punch. This book is for those Christians seeking a closer walk with their Lord Jesus Christ. Not for the non-Christian. Well worth any Christian's time to read and re-read this book. Your life will never quite be the same. Page for page, may very well be the very best book I've ever read.
This book answers questions on how to deal with failure.
Back in the 1960's, we met Roy Hession and his first wife, Revel, at a retreat where they were sharing. We had never heard honesty and openness from Christians like that before. They told how sin keeps us from that abundant life that Jesus promised and how important it was to start right where we live, in our homes, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any sin that was blocking Him from filling us to overflowing. Calvary Road helped us to see how we had been exusing sin rather than calling it what it was, how we had been "stuffing it" rather than repenting. We thought that the way was to climb up, but we saw the way up is down, down to the foot of the cross. Jesus began to reveal Himself as we allowed Him to show us where we needed His light and cleansing. As we humbled ourselves before Him, He has shown us that this simple way of walking in His light and repentance and coming to the cross is the result of seeing Jesus. Jesus has transformed and is continuing to transform us into His image and our marriage gets sweeter and sweeter as we both keep our eyes on Him, putting Jesus first, serving each other out of love for Jesus. We highly recommend this book and also "We Would See Jesus", he and Revel's second book.
Life Impacting for the Desperate and Needy
I was 16 the first time I read this book and it greatly impacted my life then. It was the first stepping stone to walking in freedom in Christ, showing me that the fears, insecurities and shyness that I never thought of (and even blamed others for, "If only they'd do this...") were from my own sins, and Jesus could free me from them.
Life has taken many paths and I forgot much of what was talked about in the book, and more recently the old fears and insecurities crept in again. I picked up the book again and the Lord exposed the places I'd tried to hide - where I'd tried to be strong, able, and just proud, trying to prove that I was okay, rather than agreeing with God that I'm not good without Him, and letting Jesus be my goodness. I discovered that the thing I was running from (conviction, brokenness, and humility) is the thing that has brought me the peace I otherwise hadn't been able to find.
