By an Amazon.com customer
Facing YouFacing You by Keith Jarrett
Buy used from: $7.00
Keith's first solo album is a feel good compilation of short compositions. Although lacking the deeper emotions of his later works the album as a whole is pleasing to listen to with a prevalent jazz and blues style throughout.
Solo Concerts: Bremen & LausanneSolo Concerts: Bremen & Lausanne by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $32.49 / Used from: $18.76
A stunning performance of subtle ideas building to more complex sequences of music and although the three improvisations are quite lengthy they hold the listeners attention and none of the music feels like it drags on or is lacking in inspiration.
The Köln ConcertThe Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $8.76
The Köln Concert is quite simply the perfect introduction to Keith Jarrett. The musical ideas throughout the concert have to be heard to be believed as it is pointless trying to put into words how this performance will make you feel. The first five notes alone will make you shiver. You should purchase this CD without hesitation.
StaircaseStaircase by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $17.98 / Used from: $11.67
Staircase is a deeper and darker collection of music drawing away from more common influences such as Folk, Jazz or Blues. It is therefore abstract yet not atonal as such and the overall feel is still one of warmth albeit a somewhat feel of lack of inspiration in parts.
Sun Bear ConcertsSun Bear Concerts by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $95.99 / Used from: $69.73
The Sun Bear concerts is a colossal box set comprising of six. It is therefore a considerable achievement that this entire box set is so consistently good with all elements of the musical spectrum explored yet connected throughout. If you can part with the money this box set is something special but if you're a little more cautious, look elsewhere.
Concerts Bregenz May 28, 1981Concerts Bregenz May 28, 1981 by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $35.98 / Used from: $33.74
This concert is as rich and varied as any other concert although not the most well known of Jarrett's work perhaps as his standard is so high it is what we have come to expect.
Dark IntervalsDark Intervals by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $6.43
Dark Intervals begins to explore a more dark and sinister area of uncharted territory. Although there is a good balance of more hospitable compositions. Therefore overall Dark Intervals is a simpler yet meaningful CD, not technically breathtaking but it is clear from the offset that it isn't trying to be so.
Paris ConcertParis Concert by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.88
The Paris Concert continues Jarrett's movement away from the more American influences of Gospel, Jazz and Blues heading more towards an abstract state. The two encores return Jarret's playing to a more definable however there is a feeling however that the concert falls short on that feeling of enrichment and enlightenment that one comes away with Jarrett's other recordings.
Vienna ConcertVienna Concert by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $16.99 / Used from: $6.95
The Vienna Concert possibly because of the setting is the most overtly classical performance. There is a classical structure to it and barely a trace of Jazz or Blues. Keith Jarrett himself has said this is his finest solo performance based on the lyrical ideas he produces, from the slow chorale progression of part one to the distinctly Middle Eastern sounding part two.
La ScalaLa Scala by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $11.00
La Scala much like the Vienna Concert reflects the surroundings of the performance and thus the first half of the concert is dominated with Spanish sounding chords and melodies. The second half is mostly atonal which may be hard to listen and appreciate for some. However after revisiting the second half of La Scala several times you may be able to stay with Jarrett on the journey he's taking you.
The Melody at Night, With YouThe Melody at Night, With You by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.25
This album is unique in that it is plain, simple music. It was recorded at Jarrett's home at a time when he was suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome and therefore feels lacking in energy and spirit. This does not mean though that you can’t come away feeling as if you have for a short period of time tuned in to the way Jarrett was feeling and that although not for everyone is deep and profound.
RadianceRadiance by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $7.50
Radiance is the first album to adopt Jarrett's more recent style of solo concerts, which is to have several short pieces one after another and is therefore a mixture of atonal compositions emotive yet hard to enjoy. Amongst this however are several parts that are beautiful as we would expect and it is all the more satisfying to listen to these pieces after hearing some of the darker pieces.
The Carnegie Hall ConcertThe Carnegie Hall Concert by Keith Jarrett
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $10.93
This, the most of recent of Jarrett's solo releases was his first solo in ten years and the entire concert viewed as a whole is an eclectic mix of everything music has to not quite the feeling of softness and warmth present in earlier recordings. Nevertheless the encores couldn’t be more melodic and beautiful and there are stunning compositions buried amongst other more creatively abstract pieces.
