Borders on Trip-Hop
I'm a little surprised to see all the reviews of people who say they wanted to bellydance to this? I suppose so. I think that's kind of missing the point of the CD.
You could also say it's middle eastern inspired jazz, but I think that's missing a component of the music.
Personally, I'd categorize the music as middle eastern inspired trip-hop. A fusion of jazz, hip-hop, and psychedelia, all rolled up into a framework of middle eastern influence.
The music doesn't strike me as regular enough to dance too. Too many odd tempo changes and pauses. This is music you groove to, no matter what kind of grooving you do. You could chill to it in a dark room. You can groove to it while entertaining friends. You can groove to schoolwork. It's very versatile music. But more than anything, it's sheer pleasure. This is beautiful music. Beautiful, wonderful, interesting, compelling music.
AWESOME!
This CD is FANTASTIC! Definately my favorite CD as a tribal dancer. I HIGHLY reccomend this, the music is just phenomenal. You'll especially appreciate this if you're familiar with The Indigo.
Middle eastern inspired jazz
I really wanted to like this CD based on other reviews and it's description. I like bellydance fusion, but I want the songs I dance to, to be 1st recogonizable as oriental music and second as fusion. Too many songs on this CD impress me as middle eastern inspired Jazz.
