Great Kitchen; Lots of Parts
I ordered this play kitchen as a Christmas present for my 2-year-old daughter, and she loves it. Our house is rather small, and this is one of the most compact play kitchens that we could find that had several stations. There are things to play with on all-four sides (which means it needs to be pulled out from the wall to play with everything) -- oven, washing machine, refrigerator, paper towel dispenser, range, sink, clock, message board, telephone.
I started assembly of the product about a week ahead of time in the basement to avoid the last-minute present rush of Christmas Eve, and boy am I glad I did. There are over 30 "real" parts to this kitchen (each nicely labeled with a numbered sticker) but by the time you include all the nuts, bolts and washers, ther are over 100 parts. Maybe this is typical of play kitchens, but I thought it was a substantial amount of "some assembly required." I thought the instructions were pretty well written (or illustrated, really -- there are very few words), but I sometimes had trouble distiguishing between the nuts and bolts shown on the diagrams. There are a lot of unique nuts and bolts -- 3 different sizes of washers, several different sizes of screws and bolts in several different colors, two different sizes of connecting bolts. I finished assembly in 3 sessions. Anyway, I knocked off 1 star because of the substantial assembly required -- but it was a great price. I guess you pay one way or the other.
As I said, now that it's assembled, my daughter loves it. It seems sturdy and compact. Just leave yourself plenty of time to put it together.
An Excellent Play Kitchen!
This kitchen is made of high-quality wood with really nice detailing!
The pieces all fit together like a perfect puzzle - it was really amazing to put it together. Putting the whole thing together requires the right mindset from the start, but with 2 adults, it took us 2 hours. We had every piece organized numerically which helped!
This is one of the best kitchens I could find and the price is unbeatable!
KidKraft definately won over a customer with this product!
By far best Xmas gift last year
We bought this for our boys who at the time were 2 and 3 1/2. My husband was skeptical about how much they would use it. Well, for one straight year, it's the one toy they both play with daily -- although not always for kitchen/cooking purposes, they just love it. It's pretty well made and seems like it will stand the test of time with them. One of the doors broke off about 4 mos. ago but only b/c they kept trying to force it the opposite direction when already open. It still looks great and we don't miss the door. We bought this one b/c we liked the wood material and the colors. I was adamant about not buying a big, bulky plastic kitchen to put in our living room. It's a great size and we also loved this model b/c multiple kids can play happily at once b/c it is multi-sided -- that is KEY!
