No spikes & Slippery handles.4
This is the economy version of their Mini Cocotte. It is the same cast iron and enamel and does the same job, but the lid has no spikes. The Amazon product description is for Staub's regular line.

What's the difference?

The spikes:
supposedly direct the steam condensing on the lid back into what you're cooking, effective basting it while it cooks. If you're making terrines, pates or mini-meat loaves this would be desirable.

The knob on the lid:
Unlike the regular collection Staub Mini Round Cocotte, .25 Quart 3 7/8 Inch, Pimento Red, the basix line has no heat resistant brass knob screwed on the lid, but has its flat knob cast with the lid. Because of its shape, this knob is almost impossible to hold with mitts and is very slippery.

The base/body of the pot:
Same cast iron, same enamel, same interior finish, same rimless design for turning terrines and meatloaves out effortlessly. Only the shape of the handles are different. The regular line had the Staub name cast into the handles and for turning something out, enabled a better grip. The basix line has smooth handles that are as slippery as the knob on the lid. However, since the pot is so small, this isn't really a problem as you will always be using a plate.

Overall this is more economical and does the same job. For serious cooks, the absence of spikes & the slippery hamdles may bother you. For use as a multipurpose Mini-Fondue/gravy boat, just make sure that your guests have a firm heat-resistant grip and don't drop it on your porcelain or in the sink.

Perfect presentation5
I bought this set of minis to use for shirred eggs and I have ended up using them for everything even as a salt crock. I even used them as presentations for individual pot roast "meals" for a dinner party and the guests thought it was fantastic. Very versatile and definitely worth the price!

Very nice!5
These two beautiful pots are small. Perfect size for roasting garlic and also for using with the fondue set for dipping sauces. Beautiful!! Great price.
