Customer Reviews

Badly designed, miserably documented, mediocre performance1
Note: The media player used for this review was an iPhone 3G.

I think this is quite possibly the worst product for the iPod/iPhone that I have ever seen.

Badly designed: The glasses are shaped so that the viewports are cut off from view when the arms of the glasses are on top of your ears (i.e., the standard way of wearing glasses.) In order to see the screen(s), the user must lean back and balance the device on the bridge of the nose, and dangle the arms below the ears, which of course means that the glasses are very precariously balanced on your face. To add insult to injury, the short cords leading to the ear buds will be constantly yanked out as the glasses slide around. I still can't believe this device was actually made this way on purpose.

Miserably documented: The only instructions are a single card with a drawing of some of the accessories you can buy on one side (thanks, MyVu, that's helpful) and a series of drawings on the back purporting to show how to set up and use the device. These drawings are, to say the least, inaccurate, inadequate, and infuriating.

There is a battery in this device. Said battery needs to be charged before the glasses will work. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW RIGHT AWAY. The first-time user, thinking perhaps that the iPod or iPhone jack will supply power, is faced with a device that seems not to work at all.
There is a drawing on the card showing a AA battery in a circle, with small arrows pointing at the battery case/control panel for the glasses and a nondescript cable plugged into a nondescript jack. THAT'S A USB CABLE and it's how you charge this stupid thing. This is listed as step 9 of the instructions, and ought to be step 1. (Well, step 1 would ideally be a drawing of the user returning this device for a full refund, while the MyVu design team is shown being sent to Product Design Prison in abject disgrace.)

Once you have charged the battery for the glasses and plugged all of the myriad cables in to each other and loaded a video on your iPod or iPhone (it works with iPhone, though the iPhone will claim it does not), you can play a video. That's all you can do; you can't surf the web or read email or anything except use the video functions of the player.

The control panel for the glasses has a power switch (which will glow when the battery is charged and it is connected) and switches for contrast and brightness, each of which has three presets: low, medium, and high. Play with these to set the video quality where you want it. There are also controls for audio volume, but I couldn't seem to make them do anything, though to be fair, by this point in the process I was pretty much composing this review in my mind, except with more colorful language, so maybe I wasn't paying the closest attention.

The video display is mediocre in quality, looking very much like a first-generation video iPod. This wouldn't be too bad if the glasses could actually be worn on the face, but it's hardly worth the effort otherwise.

Suggested improvements: Adjustable arms for the glasses to optimize viewing angle, actual documentation included with product (or even online, the MyVu FAQ is another embarrassing joke), video display quality that makes product worth the money and trouble of carrying around a fistful of cables.

Awesome product!5
I purchased these glasses a while ago when they used to cost twice as much. My daily commute has been very much enhanced now that I can watch my MP4 player in privacy on the train. The sound is also amazing. Now that they are less than $100, and shipping is free, its a real "steal"!

Myvu shades5
I found that the screens were too low for proper viewing, but that was just my eyes. I gave this pair to my wife and purchased a solo edition and we are both very pleased with Myvu personal viewers. BeachAudio is a great place to do business with
