Amazon.com Review
These wood-handled professional-quality shears perform a wide variety of everyday kitchen tasks, from snipping herbs to cutting pizza to trimming fat from meat. A notch on the blade secures game or poultry bones, while the handle grips around hard-to-open bottles and jars. Add can opener and flat screwdriver extensions on the handle, and you have an all-around tool that’s an essential in any kitchen. Afterwards, the blades un-hinge for easy, thorough clean-up.

Chicago Cutlery’s Walnut Tradition line of cutlery combines high performance with excellent value. Stamped rather than forged for lighter weight and a more reasonable price, the blades are made from high-carbon 420 stainless steel with carbon to keep edges sharper longer and chromium to resist rust and stains, while Chicago’s exclusive Taper Grind edge produces impressively precise slices and retains its sharpness well over time. A full tang extends from the tip of the knife to the end of the handle for improved balance and strength. Comfortable walnut handles offer the rich warmth of wood and a classic look; they’re securely held to the blade with triple-compression brass rivets for added safety and stability. Chicago Cutlery covers their knives with a lifetime guarantee; they recommend hand-washing and drying for best results. --Mary Park

Customer Reviews

Have had these for years4
Still work just great. Recently bought the Henckels International 5-Piece Scissors Set, sent those back (they were absolute junk) and gave these guys a sharpen. They come apart (easy to clean and sharpen) the Henckels didn't (?).

They'll get replaced eventually but for the price, they are a great deal. The bottle opener has proven useful for opening a Heineken or two over the years, while fixing dinner.

Best in the West5
These shears are tough, versatile, and handsome. They take apart so they are easy to clean. They have a notch on the blades to capture bones or other hard stuff, like rose stems. They have a can opener and flat screw-driver-type extension on the handle. Quality shears.

Not wooden handles...but that's a good thing4
I have had these shears for 7 or 8 years now.

One important thing to note: they have NO WOOD on them. That's actually a good thing, because wooden-handled scissors wouldn't be nearly as durable or versatile - if you trim chicken with your kitchen shears as I do, you want them to be plastic-handled for cleaning purposes. I don't have a dishwasher, so I always hand washed these.

They are called "Walnut Tradition" because they match the Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition wood-handled knives in appearance - Amazon just needs to correct their desciption. The handles are brown plastic...not pretty, but practical.

Now, as for quality - these arrived nice and sharp. After several years of service, they have dulled significantly, and are now on their way to the garbage. I was very, VERY hard on these shears - opening taped-up boxes with them, using them as my ONLY pair of scissors for a couple of years, etc...so I think they lasted very well, considering. Had I ever sharpened them, they may have lasted even longer. I am ordering another pair now!

BIG PLUS: They come apart easily for cleaning...you do NOT want kitchen shears that don't come apart! Ick...can you imagine bits of chicken or goo from some sauce pouch you've cut open getting stuck in the joint? Yuck! These scissors just come apart, you clean and dry them, pop them back together, and they never get gross or rusty. I never had a problem with them not fitting back together tightly, even after several years of heavy use.

Overall, a good value.
