Just what I was looking for!4
I've recently started making our own bread. We quickly realized the children were having trouble slicing a straight line and quickly the loaf was all out of shape. I looked over the bread slicers that have a plastic guide to help you cut several slices at once and not a one of them was given a favorable review. That was enough for me to look for something else. That's when I found this wonderful item. It is nicely crafted and sturdy. It assembles with one small screw. My son is left handed so the slicing guide on both ends is very convenient. The main feature of this that sold me is that you can cut each slice to the size you want each and every time. I didn't give five stars for two reasons, 1) the guides are fairly close to the end and I can see how they could be broken if you accidently press too hard against it. 2) If you use the slicer a lot, it develops a groove in the base from the knife going through the bread.

It broke right away.1
One of the spacers cracked off the first time I used it. I figured, "No problem, I'll just turn the loaf over and use the other side. Then that side broke off, also. I ended up making my own slicer guide in the garage, which has worked fine. I recommend getting a more substantial slice box. The wood on this one is about 1/2 inch thick for the upright part. The one I made in the garage is out of 1 1/2 inch thick plank, and holds up way better. And the weight of the box actually helps keep it from sliding around during cutting.

Great bread slicer!5
I ordered this bread slicer primarily because the plastic slicers have poor reviews, look like they take up too much space, and frankly look like more junk to clutter a kitchen. This cherry wood bread slicer allows me to slice my homemade bread evenly and easily, it's fairly compact (big enough to hold a loaf, but no bigger), and is nice quality. I definitely recommend this item.
