Product Description
RAN Damascus Yaxell knives are made in Japan using traditional methods and cutting edge technology. The center material of the blade is VG10 stainless steel, an optimum combination of metals that creates the best and most durable blade. The VG10 center is then covered by soft and hard stainless steel, folded together in to total 33 layers. The marbled "Damascus" finish on the blade prevents food from sticking, enabling clean cuts. The smooth, black wooden handle sits comfortably in your hand. The paring knife is used to trim, cut and peel vegetables, fruits and to decorate other smaller foods that can be held in your hand. Additionally, it serves for mincing herbs, scoring meats and scoring baked goods. Gift boxed. Made in Japan.

Customer Reviews
An extension of my hand!
I received this knife as a gift and it has quickly become my favorite item in the kitchen. It is so sharp, has great balance and just feels so good in the hand, oh...it's also very pretty--the design on the blade is beautiful. I have used it for peeling and coring apples, slicing one garlic for a dressing and shallots. It is perfect for all the little jobs I do everyday. This knife is either in my hand and drying in our dishrack, it rarely makes it to the knife block. Love it!
A real beauty, gift that will last a lifetime
I bought this as a gift for my son who is nineteen years old. Last year I bought him a Wok, which he has learned to season and cooks with it often, so I thought another cooking gift would be a good idea. Plus he is into Anime' (a form of Japanese animation) and Monga (Japanese comics) and having a Japanese knife seemed like a good fit.
From WIKI: ""(composite wood and resin handles like Pakkawood)...are considered by many chefs to be the best choice because they are as easy to care for and as sanitary as plastic, they have the appearance, weight, and grip of hardwood, and are more durable than either.""
--In other words this is the best handle for a kitchen knife, although I would gently hand wash it after using and try to protect the blade with a knife block or a blade guard. Keep it pretty.
The knife comes in a very attractive box, and is really nice, well balanced and crazy sharp. It is flawless in fit and finish, and feels great in the hand. It made me realize my well known expensive brand of a paring knife has a handle that is actually too short, compared to this one. Now I am wanting one for myself.
