Brow raising music for the symphonic band
This has got to be one of the very best bands in America, if not the world. The range of compositions featured on this recording varies from staples of band literature (Holst's little played "Hammersmith"), to one of the most brilliant new pieces of the decade, Welcher's "Zion", a tone poem with elements of minimalism, band bravada, and more than a passing nod to Copland. The disc is a must for all devoted to the symphonic band.
