Ah, Alfred!
It's always difficult to find good symphonic band recordings, and rarer to find good recordings of music composed specifically for symphonic bands. To have discovered the six volume recordings by the 20th century king of symphonic band composers is nirvana. The Otonowa Wind Symphonica and Senzoku Gakuen Symphonic Wind Orchestra are magnificent, a true pleasure to hear. Of all the pieces here, Giglia, a Song of Remembrance is my personal favorite. It's haunting, sad and hopeful all at the same time. But you'll enjoy all the pieces, for Alfred Reed's genius was how different each piece was.
