Incredible interpretation of Orff's classic work
This is by far the best version of "Carmina Burana" I have ever heard, right down to the correct pronunciation of the Germanic Latin. Arranged specially for the world famous UNT Wind Symphony and Grand Chorus, this is the premiere recording of this version of "Carmina".
The soloists are superb. Jeffrey Snider is perhaps one of the world's most skilled baritones, and the range and power exhibited on this recording are astonishing. Lynn Eustis' delicate colatura are a perfect compliment to the bright wind instruments. Brian Nedvin's vocals are almost painful to listen to, but only because I cannot fathom how he reaches above that high C.
The chorus is sloppy in some parts, but that's to be expected with over 200 people trying to sing simaltenously, and the excellent diction more than makes up for it (it's nice to finally have a recording where you can understand what the chorus is saying). A few of the chorus members standout, not in that they can be heard over the other singers, but in that they all basically carry their respective sections. Namely, Bridget Genevieve Murphy, soprano, Laura Elizabeth Watkins, alto, Ryan Alexis Marrero, tenor, and Warren Louis Gunn, baritone, who without which the chorus would obviously be lost.
All in all a fantastic interpretation that will be the standard to which all other versions are compared.
