Honest Review 40oz Kanteen
I have owned the 40oz Kanteen for 3 months. Bought it locally on sale at an outfitters store. It is very durable but will dent if dropped. I cannot think of anything bad to say about it except for the fact that they are made in China.

About the taste: many people say the water tastes metallic. That is not true. Pick up your bottle and drink from it while holding your breath. See no metallic taste. You can smell the metal container when drinking. It doesn't bother me but some people are put off by it.

Clean the bottle with baking soda once a week and every evening rinse it out and leave it on the counter with the cap off. If you maintain it there is no metallic taste to the water. If you leave water in it all the time the inside will get "fuzzy" and there will be a nasty taste. This usually takes about two weeks to set up. Once it is nasty the only way to clean it is to pour boiling water in it and use baking soda and scrub brush and a thorough rinsing. Don't burn yourself the bottle isn't insulated! Remember, keep it clean!

In a survival situation the bottle can be tied above a fire using paracord with a double half-hitch knot around the neck and used to boil water that is questionable. After a 5-6 minute rolling boil use the cord to move the bottle to another location to cool. The bottle will be very hot so don't burn yourself. After cooling use another container to pass the water from container to container a few times to oxygenate it and you should be able to drink it. Boiling water will NOT help water contaminated with chemicals or heavy metals.

I use this bottle every day and couldn't imagine having anything else. Just wish it wasn't made in China!

i love the kantean the size of 40-0z is just perfect and i can get lots of ice in the wide mouth ,, only problem is i had ordered a blue one and got the silver one and a different lid ,, i wanted the lid with the loop instead of the flat one ,, it was even shown on my order form ,, but that is ok it all works basically the same ,, love the sleave hard to get on and off so i just leave it on ,, but it helps keep your h ands from getting cold and better to carry with it
