No one in the 1980s had his finger on the pulse of gizmo-crazy adolescent boys like producer Glen Larson, creator of Battlestar Galactica and Manimal. But the peak of Larson's particular genius has to be Knight Rider, the love story of an absurdly handsome man and his absurdly indestructible car. Former detective Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff, later to achieve worldwide media dominance with Baywatch) zooms across the U.S. in K.I.T.T., a supercharged talking Trans Am with an impenetrable shell and the catty voice of William Daniels (St. Elsewhere). From the Las Vegas desert to the Louisiana bayou, Michael and K.I.T.T. solve crimes and help the downtrodden with the aid of a multi-million-dollar corporation run by dapper Devon Myles (Edward Mulhare) and mechanic/secretary/nanny April Curtis (Rebecca Holden, who took over from Patricia McPherson for the second season only).
The first season was goofy camp from the start, but the second turned even more giddily ridiculous: K.I.T.T. developed supersensors, telekinesis, and the ability to drive on water; plots included amnesia, super attack helicopters, a desperately needed transplant for a sick girl, and a supremely cheesy evil-twin storyline featuring Garthe Knight, son of the multimillionaire who gave Michael his identity-changing facial surgery, played by Hasselhoff with a mustache, soul patch, and even more luxuriant hair. In one episode, Michael goes "undercover" as the lead singer of a rock band, allowing Hasselhoff to flaunt his beloved-in-Germany vocal stylings. Of special note is an episode featuring Geena Davis (future Oscar-winner for The Accidental Tourist) as the daughter of a cat burglar, perhaps the only episode with a love interest as cartoonishly good-looking as Hasselhoff himself. This is definitive trash television, the kind of empty calories that, for some viewers, are irresistibly tasty. For Knight Rider fans, Season Two is a feast. --Bret Fetzer
Knight Rider--Season Two Trivia
• Although David Hasselhoff plays both Michael and Garthe Knight in one of the episodes in this season, he is only credited on-screen for playing Michael.
• For this season, Rebecca Holden plays April Curtis, KITT's new technician. She was brought in after Patricia McPherson (Bonnie) pushed the show's writers and producers to give her character more to do, possibly including a romance with Michael. Although April was not unpopular, many fans missed Bonnie and wrote in to ask for the character to return, which she eventually did at the start of the third season.
• The writers were torn between two songs to use for Garthe Knight's theme – "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Gimme Shelter," both by the Rolling Stones. The episode uses "Gimme Shelter".
• When avoiding pursuers, K.I.T.T. rotates its license plate, James Bond style, from KNIGHT to KNI 667.
• The producers toyed with the idea of making K.I.T.T.'s water-driving ability a reoccurring function, but it was dropped due to it proving to costly.

Best Season Of Knight Rider
This was the strongest and most ambitious season Of KR. The first episode named "GOLIATH" features Wilton Knight's evil son Garthe and a monstrous 18-Wheeler truck named "Goliath". This season also includes the sequel "Goliath Returns". Many other quality episodes are also included in this set that established KR as one of the best shows of the 1980s. Unfortunately this set, unlike the last, does not have any extras or bonuses. This is too bad because there's alot of behind-the-scenes material regarding the episode "GOLIATH" that I wouldve loved to seen. I am mad about Universal's lack of bonuses on their DVD sets, it seems that bonus material is not a priority. Too bad because I would've paid an extra few dollars to get a bonus disc that had "Goliath" on it. I give this review 5 stars for the episodes only. The DVD set deserves only 4, after all even though we get stiffed by the lack of bonuses the casing is well put together, I only wish the bonuses were included.Even though some of the original music has been deleted/altered it doesnt affect this set too much like it did the second season of Quantum Leap, after all unlike QL the music on KR was generic to begin with. Still Universal's lack of obtaining the rights of some songs is annoying and strips originality away from a classic series. Despite this any KR fan needs to own the most action-packed season of KR.
The talking car everyone still wishes he had...!
One of the more intriguing television shows of the early-1980s, Knight Rider (and K.I.T.T. in particular) captured the imagination of children everywhere while, at the same time, entertaining adults with its effective utilization of a traditional TV action genre. Knight Rider tells the story of an incredible crime fighting team brought together when the terminally-ill billionaire Wilton Knight saves the life of police officer Michael Long after Long gets shot in the face... When the billionaire helps out, providing Long with a new face and a new identity (Michael Knight), the young officer dedicates the remainder of his life to fighting injustice on behalf of the Foundation of Law and Government (FLAG). Singled out by Wilton Knight and aided by the staff of FLAG, Michael is teamed up with an extraordinary vehicle that, if necessary, is capable of fighting bad guys all by itself...
Knight Rider features David Hasselhoff in the role of Michael Knight, an ex-cop turned private crime fighter. But the true star of the show is Michael's car, K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a sleek black Pontiac Trans-Am impervious to bullets, fire, or most any type of mayhem. Outfitted with state-of-the-art, top secret Artificial Intelligence, K.I.T.T. is not only capable of self-operation (with his mission to protect all human life), but he's outfitted with smoke bombs, flamethrowers, infrared sensors, and countless other nifty gadgets. Able to verbally communicate with humans, K.I.T.T. maintains a special friendship with Michael, developing his own personality (which at times provides comic relief for the show). Just as criminal outlaws of the early-1980s feared the wrath of The A-Team, the prospect of a visit from Michael and K.I.T.T. certainly caused many sleepless nights for America's criminal element...
The Knight Rider (Season 2) DVD features a number of action-packed episodes including the two part season premiere "Goliath" in which Michael and K.I.T.T. are forced to do battle with Wilton Knight's ex-wife and son who enjoy the aid of a truck sporting many of the same capabilities as K.I.T.T... Other notable episodes from Season 2 include "Blind Spot" in which Michael enlists the aid of a blind woman who is the only witness to a corrupt businessman's illegal practices, and "Speed Demons" in which Michael and K.I.T.T. are on high alert when an anonymous tipster warns that the upcoming Foundation sponsored motorcycle race will play home to a murder...

The DVD Report
Best Knight Rider season, you say?! Definitely!!!
I'm biased when it comes to my love for the second season of Knight Rider. You see, it was watching second season eps like 'Ring of Fire', 'Merchants of Death', 'Brother's Keeper', 'Big Iron' (these were some of my earliest KR memories) that made me fall in love with the show!! But seriously, even without these fond early memories, you can't deny the greatness that is Season 2! Two Goliath eps (two of the best KR eps) in one season?! Come on, you just can't beat that!! Especially, when the second one even surpasses the first one! Need I say more? How about the fact that Ann Turkel (the best 'femme fatale' of the series) is also featured twice in this season as Adrienne Margeaux in 'Soul Survivor' and 'Goliath Returns'! Other awesome eps include 'Merchants of Death' (with the AWESOME battle helicopter that fires sledgehammer missiles), 'Ring of Fire', 'Knightmares', 'A Good Knight's Work', and yes, even 'Mouth of the Snake' (despite the fact that Michael and KITT aren't the main focus there). Also the opening credits are the best for this season, April is as lovely as ever, and the turbo boosts of this season are more frequent and better than ever!!! Best season!!! Case Closed!
