Sootherbs with vitamin C, echinacea, and zinc will help make you feel better faster just like cold-eeze but dissolve faster in your mouth. They don't come in many flavors (and I HATE cherry flavoring) but it is worth it because they soothe your throat better than anything I have found on the market. I ate them constantly after my tonsillectomy.

Get a good strong tissue with lotion to blow your nose. The "with lotion" kleenex will help to keep your nose from going raw after so much blowing. Also look for the anti-bacterial/viral tissues to keep from spreading your sickness. Another note: When you have a runny nose, be sure to blow often instead of just wiping.

I use dayquil all the time when I have a cold, but please use as directed and don't overlap doses. Dayquil, unlike Nyquil, shouldn't make you drowsy, but once your symptoms are gone you may feel tired simply because your body is comfortable enough to sleep. I recommend the gels over the liquid because these are easier to take when your not at home.

Everyone encourages sick folks to drink more fluids. If a lot of water is making you sick, and hot beverages aren't soothing you like you wish, try the good old standard gatorade. It will help keep you hydrated longer and if you freeze it slightly, it will cool your hot raw throat.

Any humidifier will do if you have a cold, especially during the dry air season of the winter months. Dry air can be miserable especially if you have a stuffy nose. Warm moisture in the air an increase nasal flow (to unclog your poor sniffer) and will also keep your nasal passages from getting overly dry. A dry nose and dry lips can cause cracking and bleeding.

Keep your lips from getting chapped with a medicated lip balm. I use Blistex Medicated Mint in a tube because A. The medicated balms work better on cold chapped lips, B. The mint helps with sick breath, C. Everyone should use an SPF on their lips, D. When you cold is gone, you can just slice a little layer off the top of the balm and use it w/o getting sick again.
