Product Description

Many a confident urban lesbian in New York, San Francisco, and Chicago was once a wide-eyed newcomer. Every year thousands of young women arrive in these queer-friendly cities, seduced by downtown life and its erotic possibilities. In Where the Girls Are, D.L. King collects explicit memoirs and stories about these newly arrived country girls. Here are stories of first times, initiations, bars, dance clubs, and parties, reading (or misreading) the codes — and sometimes teaching those city girls a thing or two in the process. Featuring such stories as “My First Play Party,” “Rush Hour,” and “The Critic” from well-regarded authors of erotica Charlotte Dare, Rachel Kramer Bussel, Sophie Mouette, Lisabet Sarai, and others, Where the Girls Are burns with the immense heat of the furnace that lies just below the urban landscape.

Lesbian Sex in the City5
DL King (editor). "Where the Girls Are: Urban Lesbian Erotica", Cleis Press, 2009.

"Lesbian Sex in the City"

Amos Lassen

I just finished reading "Where the Girls Are" and it blew me away (which is interesting since I am a gay male). The book is composed of explicit stories about girls who move to the cities from the country and do so because of the sexual opportunities in the urban centers. The stories are erotic but more important is that they are well written. Some of the stories are true while others are fiction but they all share the theme of urban lesbian life. The nineteen stories in the book take place in various venues--bars, dance clubs and parties and the girls are lusty. We all know how tempting city life is and we get quite the taste of it here. The authors selected have literary skills that make the stories come alive and they cover all aspects of lesbian life from bondage and misreading the codes that we as gay people use.
DL King is to be congratulated on having chosen wonderful stories by authors who have literary skill. Be you male or female, this is a book that can be totally enjoyed.

Steamy, hot city lovin'5
No matter whether it's your first visit to the big city or you've been living there for fifty years, 'Where the Girls Are' has something for everyone. Lover's of lesbian fiction will find plenty of action between these pages to WET their appetite. From the newcomer fresh off the bus to the seasoned city chick, the innocent to the well educated this book held my attention from the very beginning. DL King has a definite hit on her hands.
My favorite story had to be Cari Z's 'Not in Kansas Anymore' A dramatic twist on the dramatic 'sex in costume' theme. It made me want to get all dressed up and go looking for some fun of my own. So for those of you who love great settings, a fast pace and plenty of heat, hurry up and get a copy of 'Where the Girls Are' today.

Something for everyone!4
Another successful anthology of women's erotica! "Where the Girls Are" offers a variety of tales, catering to several different types of erotica, from a steamy encounter with a stranger during a trip to London ("Old London Town", Jacqueline Applebee) to the more edgy story of a young woman's infatuation for a dominating Mistress ("A is for Apple" by Jessica Lennox).

Although I enjoyed several of the selections, my two favorites were "Electricity" by Evan Mora, and "Come to my Window" by Andrea Dale. I particularly enjoyed the chemistry between characters!
