Think Twice About Buying Clear Fluid Lava Lamps
First off, I would like to say I am not new to lava lamps, I currently own seven, all but two purchased via mail order. I really wanted one with the black lava and clear fluid, but regretably have found them to be nothing but trouble. I have just packed up my second one to return to Amazon. The clear fluid is so cloudy you cannot see the lava. I followed instructions provided by the manufacturer to try to clear this up. In other words, I did not just give up on the lamp and return it the next day. I spent about two weeks running each lamp every day trying to get the liquid to clear up, but both attempts failed with no improvement at all. Had I seen even a slight improvement during that time I might have kept the lamp in the hope that it would eventually clear, but after two weeks it was as cloudy and murky as it was the day it arrived. My other lamps, which have coloured liquids work just fine, but the clear ones are a complete disappointment. I am in no way implying that this is Amazon's fault, perhaps it is just that they get shaken up so badly in the UPS truck, or maybe it's just the way they are made, I don't know. I also ordered another lamp with a different colour of lava and clear fluid from another online retailer, who shipped it via Federal Express, and had exactly the same problem. That lamp was also returned.

Lovin' my lava lamp
I don't know what it is about lava lamps but they just make me feel happy and philosophical. I purchased the 52oz White/Blue lava lamp and get that same warm fuzzy feelings from it that I have every other lava lamp. It's large enough that you get multiple blobs going at the same time. It's like a miniature war for supremacy in there...which blob is going to come out the victorious winner on top? It arrived pretty clear and only got better with use. The only thing I would mention is that the "white" wax does NOT look at all white. It looks yellow when it's towards the bottom and light blue by the time it hits the top. Still totally pretty and trippy and everything a lava lamp should be. What else could you spend under $20 on and get HOURS of entertainment? No mood altering substances are necessary for the enjoyment of this fine product.

Great for adults
I have a lava lamp at work and I love it. The lamp has a calming effect on me when I need a few moments to unwind. The only problem is that the lamp is on a base and I am always worried that someone will knock it over it is not nearly as sturdy as I would like. The other issue is that it gets REALLY HOT as in burn your fingers hot. Leaving the lamp on overnight would not be a good idea. For these reasons I would be hesitant to buy for a younger child.

All in all the lava lamp is an excellent addition to my already cluttered work desk. It was worth every dollar!
