Editorial Reviews
From Booklist
As first to market, eBay certainly dominates the online auction space. Challengers have come into the fray, only to fade into obscurity. The competition just pales in comparison when it comes to market exposure, features, and ease of use. Holden is no stranger to eBay, having written seven books on the subject, but he notes that in terms of growth, eBay is not the shooting star that it once was. Sellers are complaining about the increased competition, fee increases, and the overreaching power that eBay holds over its members. A successful online business shouldn't have to depend on a single service provider such as eBay for its success, particularly when small infractions of eBay's complex rules can shut your business down in a flash. Holder reviews a number of competing services, such as iOffer, which turns the table on the auction process and lets buyers place offers below the seller's asking price; Yahoo! Auctions, which is poised to become the dominant auction seller in Asia; and Overstock.com, currently gaining exposure with high-profile TV ads. David Siegfried

Life after Ebay, but don't leave them out
I purchased this book after being suspended from EBay after being a member since 1999, a powerseller, and with a rating of over 5,000. I learned an expensive lesson and gathered great infomation due to suspension, but especially form this book. I'd recomend every Ebayer and anyone wishing to sell online to purchase this book. As I said I've been an EBayer since 1999, and learned so much from this book. I have been re-instated on EBay and this book and my suspension has given many tips, and information that has also helped changed the way I will things from now on. At 1st I was so angry at EBay that I had inquired about Amazon, Yahoo, Craigs list to name a few of other popular auction sites, I even started the process to open one with Amzazon, and will probaly eventually be listing on this site as well as others. I learned you can't put all you eggs in one basket, always needing a back up plan, and must always follow rules, read and understand policies, and make sure to always be up to date all the time. I opened my own web-site which I probaly would have never done if it wasn't for the suspension and this book. After reading this book I read that many other sellers of EBay have opened their own web-site, but many have also kept a presence with EBay, because they are the largest and most popular online site of its kind, no one even comes close.I'm continuing my reading of this book and have already highly recomended it to others. What would happen if EBay did not exist anymore? EBay fees just went up again, to some as high as 33%. It is and has become extrmely differcult to make money online, so it is important to do your homework to be successful. Before my EBay site went down I had been paying monthly fees of around $700 and at the rate I was listing that amount would have easily gone much higher. Now I have decided that I will have auctions in several areas, and sites, but most of all have my site up and it will soon become profitable. The money I was paying for fees, by splitting it up to mantain a web-site easily makes it work. I have learned all this and much more from this book, every reader will get something from this book, and for many it may change your life for the better. So I highly recomend this book to all and can't wait for an
