Customer Reviews
great picture!
I am using this tv set for OTA reception and dvd playing only.
Pros:
- The picture from digital sources is really great! wonderful! (picture from analogical sources is ok, but it does not look much better than a good flat tube tv)
- The digital tuner gets all the digital channels available in my area, even though my outdoor antenna is on the floor of the balcony. I did have to change the position of the antenna many times to find all the channels.
- The menu is easy to read and play, and the remote is simple enough, having everything that I need.
- The screen adjustment button is great. Smart-stretch is much better than plain stretch.
Cons:
- the mute button does not work when I use an external speaker connected to the audio output plugs. Because of that, I have to use the headphone plug to connect the speakers (the internal speakers are not bad, but it does not compare with a good speaker system).
- Adding digital channels is hard to do. To find additional channels, I had to re-scan all channels every time I changed the position of the antenna. The [Find Channel] function seems to work only with analogical channels.
- The position of the captions cannot be changed (only justification is changeable). And I wish that there were better font types available (only the FORMAL type is easy to read, but it could be better).
- There is no video output to be able to record from the tv digital tuner, but I don't think any other tv set has that anyway (meaning that I'll eventually have to replace my analogical dvd-recorder or buy a digital tv-box).
- The set froze up twice when trying to find an unstable channel signal. I had to cut the energy off to make it work again. There was no apparent side effect.
Great little TV
I decided to purchase a small TV for my bedroom. My main TV is a Sharp Aquos 32" LCD HDTV, which is a superb TV, so I naturally looked into Sharp for a small version. I like Sharp HDTVs as they come with a QAM tuner, which allows me to get the local HDTV channels and many unscrambled digital channels from cable - I don't want a set-top box in the bedroom.
This set was everything I expected. HD stations look great and SD stations are quite acceptable at the viewing distance I use. The speakers are small, so the sound isn't nearly as good as my 32", but you can't really expect them to be. So, if you're looking for a nice, small TV that will pull in the local HD stations from either antenna or cable, give this one a serious look.
Only needs a cheap antenna
I purchased this TV on a holiday Monday and it was delivered on Thursday. I wanted a smaller HDTV for a seldom used guest room and was not willing to spend another $10.00 monthly on my cable bill for an additional HD converter box. I was surprised that a cheap 10.00 generic antenna pulled in all the local digital channels I used the scan for digital channel feature and was in business. The picture is excellent and the TV has many features, including a guide that gives information on the program you are watching without being connected to cable, that I had not expected.
