When the first Harry Potter books magically appeared in bookstores, the world of children's literature changed forever. Every child and adult alike reveled in the highly imaginative, fantastical world of the boy wizard and when Hollywood spun out its cinematic versions of these beloved tales, the Harry Potter phenomenon was elevated to the status of cultural legend. But just who was responsible or dreaming up such a wild world of witches and wizards, ghosts and giants, spells and sorcery? The answer? JK Rowling. And although today this name is now synonymous with the world of magic and wizardry, just who is this enigmatic author, and what influences shaped her life enough to create such fantastical fiction? The truth be-hind the legend reads like a fairy tale itself, for JK Rowling started her illustrious career as a struggling, poverty-stricken single mother who penned her manuscript in an Edinburgh coffee shop and rose to the ranks of a celebrity multi-million-aire. J.K. Rowling and the Birth of Harry Potter, a fascinating new unauthorized biography, offers an insight into this "rags to riches" story, exploring Rowling's meteoric rise to fame as well as the people and places that shaped her as an author. So if you're ready for an adventure, climb aboard and let this DVD take you on a journey of magic and discovery.

Not bad...
This documentary doesn't have any interviews with J.K.Rowling, or with anyone for that matter. J.K.Rowling's life and the birth of Harry Potter are explained entirely by the narrator of this hour-long program, while we see images and footage of different places in Britain. It is nicely put together and quite informative, although I think for the knowledgeable fan, there isn't anything new.
5 minutes of material stretched into an hour is BORING!!!
This seems to have been sponsored by some kind of United Kingdom tourism bureau, as it mainly depicts still photographs of places for Harry Potter fans to visit. They mention MANY times what a "private person" J.K. Rowling is, which is, of course, the excuse for why there is NO SUBSTANCE whatsoever to this DVD. I'm hesitant to even call it a movie, since it plays much more like a slide show with a narrative (plagued with lots of speculative "filler" to kill time). Save your money, or if you must see it, get it from your library or request it by interlibrary loan. If you don't have to PAY to watch it, you might feel somewhat less pain for having wasted an hour of your time on it.
No Title
It came in good condition. It was not what I expected but it was very interesting the same. I learned a lot from it and wish that she would keep Harry Potter going.
