Created, it would seem, as a special-occasion soundtrack for love-struck dreamers, the eighth career recording from Jim Brickman is a rewarding collection of eight instrumentals and four vocal tracks--one that will especially be appreciated by the pianist's longer-term fans. Beyond the sentimental excess of a couple of vocal tracks, the disc's affecting piano solos (most with minimal or no accompaniment) compare favorably with works found on Brickman's esteemed early-career releases, No Words, By Heart, and Picture This. At his best, Brickman composes touching, mentally engaging sonic essays that articulate the fragility and deeper complexities of interpersonal relations. He's working at a high level throughout Love Songs and Lullabies, shading his solo compositions with moods that shift subtly from reverence to romance to (as on the gems "Night Prayer" and "Safe and Sound") appreciative contemplation. On "Little Stars," Brickman revisits "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" (first explored on By Heart), intertwines it with "Rock-a-Bye Baby," and elevates the simple melodies into something regally refined. Noteworthy vocal tracks include a tender interpretation of 1 Corinthians 13 ("Love Never Fails," with Canadian vocalist Amy Sky) and "You," a gently upbeat charmer sung beautifully by Ally McBeal alumna Jane Krakowski (Elaine). Downside: The disc, released less than a year after Simple Things, has a run time of less than 38 minutes. Upside: Brickman's splendid piano solos more than compensate. --Terry Wood

Oops!.....Jim Brickman Does it Again!!!
Once more, Jim Brickman has recorded and produced a cd that is sure to be a big hit among all of his legions of fans. As always, there is something for everyone on this cd. The smooth instrumentals are soft and relaxing {hence, the reason for the name lullabies in the title of the cd} and the vocals are upbeat and at the same time romantic. He has a tendency to showcase the sometimes hidden talent of various artists. Amy Sky, from Canada, has a soft and romantic voice on "Love Never Fails" who will surely develop a following here in the USA, and Jane Krakowski, formerly of Ally McBeal, who turns in a beautiful vocal performance on "You", the final track of the cd. Not to be overlooked is Jim Brickman's vocals on "I See The Moon" With each new cd, his vocals become more strong and confident. Many will probably say that all of his cd's begin to sound alike after awhile, but for the true Brickman fan, there will always be an unmistakeable individuality to his music that endears him to his many, many fans. And as a side note, Jim Brickman is truly one of the only performers that I know of who's concerts sound exactly like his cd's and the cd's are exactly like the concerts, proving that you do not need 20 or 30 musicians, nor pyrotechnics to produce a wonderful show or cd.There really is beauty in simple solo piano music.
Pleasant piano playing
My wife heard Mr. Brickman during his appearance on "Fox & Friends" one morning, and decided that this CD would make a good birthday present for me, so she bought it. She has good taste, and I enjoy listening to this music very much. All of the compositions are well done, and the piano playing is soothing and relaxing. My favorite tune is "Love Never Fails", and the vocals on it, by Amy Sky, are wonderful. This is the type of CD that you want to have playing when you are spending time alone with your special someone, either driving in your auto, or just relaxing at home before a roaring fire, sipping some "bubbly"!
Peace in a crazy world
I just love Jim Brickman!!! He is such a talented pianist!!! I saw him in concert just last week and met him in person. He is such a nice person! Anyway enough of that. I just love this cd! Especially on the songs that Tracy Silverman joins him in on! It is so nice to hear music where people aren't always yelling or mad at somebody. And thank goodness you know that there is no profanity in his music. When I play his music I get so wrapped up in it I lose all sense of time. His music is also very thought provoking. When I hear it I tend to do alot of soul searching. As I play his cd's no matter how stressed out or mad at the world I am it brings me to another place. It brings me to a place of calm and I begin to unwind and let my cares drift away. I highly recomend this cd not just for the music but because it is a great way to handle stress. What more can I say? Buy it!!!
