Average customer review:
(2003) - Comedy/ Romance - It is hard to find lesbian films that veer from the norm. Having low budgets and time constraints, they often are taken as falling short of mainstream art. However working within those parametors, the movie was great. Role playing, comedy, and truthfulness added depth to this project that was 4 years in the making. Yes, the situations were over exaggerated, sometimes campy but the actors brought to life the essence of this story. We all role play--we just call it by a different name. In the "real world" people do experiment with sex- do we label that kinky? If we like to wear jeans and baggy pants does that signal being a dyke/butch? If we are in love with someone but hide behind our feelings are we being truthful to ourselves? The chemistry between Lou (Michelle Wolff) and Sassy (Daniele Ferraro) was evident, sexy, but yet serious. The film proved credible by bringing these 2 out of character in the last scenes. In making mistakes they could at least salvage a relationship instead o

Product Description

Lou and Sass are performance art partners and best friends who have recently moved to San Francisco. Shy Lou's life turns upside down when she confesses her passion for the outgoing Sass, and they change from roommates to lovers. The path to romantic bliss takes a wide detour, however, when they meet new friends with some rather frisky ideas.

Lesbian love takes a kinky turn in Mango Kiss, a romantic comedy about role playing of all kinds. Lou (Michelle Wolfe) and Sassy (Daniele Ferraro) are best friends who move to San Francisco, where they're delighted by the abundance of lesbian lifestyles. Sassy can't wait to sample the bounty, but Lou just wants Sassy--though when she gets her wish, complications begin. Mango Kiss features a host of quirky characters, ranging from tops and bottoms in the bondage scene to a couple that has replicated a 1950s male-female relationship. Fortunately, the movie doesn't just coast on quirk--the writing and acting are strong, though the story loses momentum towards the end. Mango Kiss also doesn't take itself (or the role-playing) too seriously; its satirical humor gives the movie some spark--and a couple of steamy sex scenes don't hurt either. Also featuring Sally Kirkland (Private Benjamin). --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews

Rates as one of the best lesbian films to date5
My five stars is not intended to place this film above all others, but instead, reflects its luster in the underpopulated Lesbian film genre. Among all films, possibly it would still rate four stars. A happy, naughty, sexy, not too serious, sometimes melodramatic romp through the Lesbian world. Every one of the actresses perform well. The script has passion and intelligence. The DVD menu offers behind-the-scenes footage and interesting interviews. Highly enjoyable, and recommended as an addition to your library, whether you are a devotee of the genre or not.

Though partial to negative reviews, I am suspicious of some of the ones here that only give a blanket one-sentence justification for their one-star rating. I get the impression somebody doesn't like somebody associated with the movie, or is offended by the butch/femme stereotypes. I am lifting that comment from the one legitimate-sounding negative review that I marked as Helpful. It is true that this movie has fun with the old stereotypes, but please, people. . . it's light-hearted, sexy role-playing and whatnot. Not every movie has to portray the political ideal or whatever you hold forth as perfection. Lighten up!

ARGH!! my EYES!!!1
Ok, I am a member of what one reviewer called a "stereotypical" butch femme relationship. I am also kinky, non monogamous, and in a daddy/girl relationship, so my problems with this film had nothing to do with these elements in the film. In fact, i wish there were more films that represented these parts of our queer community. But if i have to be represented by this crap, i'm going vanilla.

I see a lot, a LOT of lesbian/dyke films, and this one was so, so bad that i had to watch it through my fingers most of the time. The acting is painful, so awful, the storyline ridiculous and cringeworthy, and most of the sex uninspired. And really, i felt like this film was trying to deal with "roles" or something, but produced by people who never talked to anyone in a d/g relatinship.... i ended up feeling insulted that this was the way the people "learn" about kink and daddy/girl. sigh.

one good thing- there is some variety of size and color among the actresses (not the main characters, tho) in this film... that's a good thing to see in the mostly white-and-skinny world of lesbo film.

please, please don't see this film, unless you enjoy tormenting yoruself with atrocious filmaking. I do, and i'm not even sure that will justify watching this horror again....

A Must See5
A passionate playful wonderful artistic piece. While it may not be for those uptight about kinky sex it is a masterpiece for lesbians who appreciate playful sex and fun dramatic characters with a creative plot. A little fun never hurts anyone and this is just a fun, creative piece to get one's juices flowing. If you're looking for a more serious film this is not for you, but every bit of this deserves at least a 4 star rating no matter what your tastes are.
