Safety - I just saw these products on the Myth Busters cable TV program. The one like this is designed to break a car window & did so even when under water...if done soon enough! They proved that it works. If car goes in water, try not to panic, unbuckle seat belt, lower windows (electronics work for several mins under water), or use this device.

one of the better portable WBand radios. uses NOAA's weather band to pickup severe weather in your region. good reviews. costs more than the FR300, but includes the A/C wall charger. TV band won't work after 2008. hand-crank for power too. Can't be set to auto receive alerts, no S.A.M.E.

Safety - This whistle is a bit larger, but is made to carry over distances and cut through wind. Also got good reviews. Can even be heard under water - scuba divers use it.

Water - When we lost power at our vacation home - flushing the toilet became a problem as our water is pumped from a well. If you pour water in the tank, it flushes, but wouldn't refill. A water barrel like this would have come in handy. Most regular homes don't use an electric pump, but can hold a family's drinking water too.

Comfort - make sleeping rough, or in a shelter, more comfy

Safety- personal safety device, both to warn someone off if you fear attack, or to alert a rescuer to your location - in a disaster, or even hiking in a park. Anyone can fall and twist an ankle. I sure beats yelling for help. Light gives comfort, helps rescuers too.

Light - These have gotten good reviews and allow you to see what you need to see, without messing up your night site, i.e. blinding you because your eyes are used to the dark. not sure if need to squeeze and hold, or if has dedicated on off switch.
