A Choice Not an Echo
Written in part to promote Republican Barry Goldwater's 1964 presidential campaign, Schlafly's book is also an astounding revelation of back room politics. For decades, groups of industry leaders created a web of influence specifically designed to defraud the American people of free elections at the highest level. This book provides shocking insight,an important history lesson, and is a must read for anyone (of all political affilliations) interested in liberty and the right to a free society.
Insights on the Selection of GOP Nominees
Phyllis Schlafly's book was written in support of Barry Goldwater's candidacy for the 1964 Republican nomination. She outlined how, in each election year from 1936 to 1960, the moderates in the party managed to ensure that no conservative was nominated. Goldwater broke through in 1964, and eventually a true conservative, Ronald Reagan, was elected president in 1980.
Then as now, conservatives in most presidential years, including 2008, are dismayed that a moderate, not a conservative, winds up being nominated. Since Coolidge, there have been only three presidential elections (1964, 1980, and 1984) in which a movement conservative led the GOP ticket. In the future, perhaps we conservatives should not be shocked when a conservative is not at the top of the Republican ticket, but when one is.
A very important book
Phyllis Schlafly's book is a must read for those who believe feminists are nuts. A wonderful book.
