Amazon.com Product Description
Large and in charge, the Citizen Nighthawk men's stainless steel pilot watch will add a soaring accent to business and casual wear. It includes a standard slide rule as well as a pilot's slide rule, which can be used for flying distance and other navigation calculations. The round black watch case has a brushed finished with a thin-edged bezel framing the black dial background, and it measures 42mm (1.65 inches) wide and 12mm (0.47 inches) deep. It's accented by large luminous white hands, thin white baton markers, and Arabic numerals at 6 and 12 o'clock. This watch is completed by a stainless steel link bracelet band with a black finish, which is joined by a push-button fold-over clasp with safety. Other features includes a dual-time function for tracking a second time zone, large date display at 3 o'clock, scratch resistant mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating, and water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet).

This watch is powered by Citizen's unique Eco-Drive, which absorbs sunlight and any artificial light through the crystal and dial to recharge the watch continuously. With regular exposure to light, the Eco-Drive continuously recharges itself for a lifetime of use. This watch's Eco-Drive provides a 180-day power reserve, and it can be recharged with just 1.5 hours of exposure to light.

Eco-Drive Frequently Asked Questions
How can you tell if the Eco-Drive watch is getting enough light? In normal use, the watch displays the time and the sweep-second hand moves in one second intervals. A very important feature of Eco-Drive is the Low Charge Warning Mode which as a result of low battery voltage, causes the second hand to jump two seconds at a time (while still keeping correct time).

How long will an Eco-Drive watch run after it is fully charged?
If your watch is put away where no light is available to it while in a fully charged state, depending on the model, it will run for from 45 days to 5 years.

How can the Eco-Drive watch be recharged?
Besides sunlight, it can be safely charged by exposing it to a fluorescent desk lamp, with the dial (face) up and within about 8 inches or an incandescent lamp (regular light bulb) no closer than 20 inches. Never use a halogen lamp since the heat generated by it can cause damage to your watch. The most efficient and the quickest is in direct bright sunlight (not windowsill) and never on the dashboard of a car.

Warranty
It's backed by Citizen's 5-year warranty (from original date of purchase).

About Citizen
One of the world's largest watch makers, the Citizen Watch Company was founded in 1924 in Japan from its beginnings as the Shokosha Watch Research Institute. The first watch released by the company was named "CITIZEN" and its name was selected so that it would be "close to the hearts of people everywhere." Today, Citizen is recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced timepiece technology, from the world's slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch to the world's first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor. Citizen was also the first to sell watches made with titanium in the world, which is not only light and durable but also non-allergenic (as stainless steel can be to some wearers). Most recently, Citizen has released watches powered by its Eco-Drive, which runs continuously in any kind of natural light or artificial light for a lifetime of use without changing a battery.

The Citizen Watch Brand

The company was established in 1924. The founding fathers selected the name Citizen so it would be "Close to the Hearts of People Everywhere" and soon after adopted the company's formal name, Citizen Watch Company.

During the last seventy-five years Citizen has expanded its business throughout the world and has achieved recognition as the global brand. The past twenty-five year period has coincided with the company's dramatic rise to its current position as the world's largest watchmaker, a distinction Citizen has held every year since 1986.

Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world's slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world's first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen's record of "world's firsts" is unmatched.

More recently, Citizen has staked out a new position as the leader in Ecologically Friendly timekeeping with its Eco-Drives watches that are light powered. With models ranging from dress models to sports models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery.

Customer Reviews

Very nice Watch...for a pilot.4
Diameter of the actual bezel is 41mm, and with the addition of the crown it adds up to just about 45mm, and the width checking in at 12mm.

First characteristic to strike me was the weight of the watch, it's definately on the heavy side but does not cross over the line to become bulky and weighs in at about 12oz. With a 41mm diameter it is a bit large but does not look akward on small wrists like mine. The color is a satin black and unfortunately it will scratch off over time which was a little dissapointing. The clasp feels a bit weak, and this being the 2nd Citizen watch I've owned with this same clasp type, I am a bit nervous that the folding mechanism will eventually break off as happened before somewhere on I-95 with my last watch.

The slide rule, operated by a crown on the 8 o'clock position, slides very smoothly. The slide rule is able to calculate fuel consumption, groud speed, air speed and distance, division, multiplication, and square roots. This is no easy task and the users manual offers little in the way of clarification, I suppose if you're a pilot this would not be difficult to grasp but for regular people it's more of a novelty feature than a useful one.

To sum up, this is a very nice watch worth the pricetag. Looks good, feels quite solid and of course, never needs a battery. Citizen should look into more effective ways of making sure a black Stainless steel watch stays black, and manufacture a more reliable clasp.

a magnificent watch5
Citizen build a magnificent watch and Amazon provide this watch with a price less than the half from the stores.

Citizen Nighthawk Black watch4
Although I have never owned a Citizen watch until the Nighthawk, I have come away pretty impressed. The watch has a screw down bezel and internal slide rule moves, which is very smooth. The slide rule is a really nice touch, but I would be hard pressed to use it while flying. I am not sure why the black version is more expensive, but I was shopping for something with more of a unique look, and the black casing and band remove it from the sea of silver or leather banded watches. Overall, the watch is quite versatile and I am happy with the purchase.
