![]() The ES-101 simulates the full spectrum and brightness of sunlight and is glare-free. |
The ES-101 is a compact-fluorescent floor lamp that simulates the brightness of sunlight--which is balanced across the entire spectrum of color visible to the human eye--for clear, bright, and comfortable lighting that's easy on your eyes. It also helps reduce eye strain, provides better contrast and more vivid colors, and creates sharp visibility for more detail. And it's even glare free, making the ES-101 ideal for computer use.
Uses Less Energy to Save Money and Protect the Environment
To help save energy and potentially reduce your electricity bill, the ES-101 includes a plug-in 27-watt compact-fluorescent bulb with 10,000-hour bulb life. That means it lasts up to 10 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs, yet uses two-thirds less energy than an equivalent 100-watt incandescent bulb. For added convenience, this bulb uses an electronic ballast, so it won't hum or flicker, and it is a safe and cool alternative to incandescent and halogen bulbs.
The ES-101 is also Energy Star and Earth Smart certified, which means it uses less energy than non-certified products and can help save money and protect the environment. In fact, by purchasing products like this energy efficient lamp, families can save about a third on their energy bill with similar savings of greenhouse gas emissions--all without sacrificing performance, style, or comfort.
Adjustable Design
This lamp measures 59.5 inches tall--or 48 inches tall when positioned horizontally--and features an adjustable gooseneck arm, so you can position it exactly where you want it. Its contemporary design looks great next to a sofa, chair, or end table. With an on/off switch conveniently located directly on the 10-inch durable plastic shade, the ES-101 is a snap to use for hours of reading, crafting, and hobby enjoyment.

Customer Reviews
Remember: You're paying for the bulb, not the lamp
The lamp is really secondary...it's nothing fancy, just pvc pipe really. Although as someone else noted, it's not really ugly, it's just not fancy.
But the bulb REALLY does help. I do a lot of reading and studying, and so far I have not experienced any eye fatigue. I just gave one to my mom as a pre-Christmas gift; she has had some eye problems and reads a lot and does crosswords, and she loved it from the get go.
So my recommendation is that since it's really the bulb you want, buy the cheapest lamp that you can, and I believe that this one is the most reasonably priced.
Used?
This item arrived 'gift wrapped' in a purple sack with a blank card. Bad on Amazon.
When I assembled this for my gift recipient, my grandma, I noticed scratches on the pole sections. Strike one on Grandrich.
Taking a look at the paperwork, I also noticed brown smudge marks all over the place, as if the papers had been dropped onto a dirt floor and left for weeks. Strike two on Grandrich.
And now, 4 weeks later, the light has already burned out. My parents have a similar light, which is where I got the idea, but theirs is several months old and still going. The only replacement bulbs I can find on Amazon are from Grandrich. I hope this is not their scam to make even more money with substandard products. Strike three on Grandrich.
On the positive side, the light is excellent while it's working. Very bright, and very white light. The gooseneck is easily redirected while remaining stable in every position. It's too bad my experience has been so embarrassing as a gift giver.
Not exactly sunlight
This lamp is advertised to simulate sunlight. I have full-spectrum bulbs that really do illuminate like the sun, but this isn't one of them. In fact, the replacement bulb simply states "fluorescent" on the packaging--nothing about sunlight simulation.
I had wanted light that was both useful and healthy, but this lamp doesn't deliver. On the plus side, I'm able to see my work well enough at night. But after a while the light hurts my eyes. After just a couple of months it's time to look for a replacement.
