![]() | Little Tikes DiscoverSounds Tool Box
Buy new: $39.99 This little sorter provides an interesting twist on the classic box sorter. The shapes have slightly rounded edges, making them easy for baby to hold. When they slide into place, the "toolbox" makes a silly sound. This always held my son's attention - he could easily flip the middle panel in the tool box to allow access to the shapes he'd "sorted" and he'd start over again.

![]() | The Farmer Says
Buy new: $20.45 This is a great toy for the car because it doesn't include little pieces to get thrown, dropped, or lost. My son plays with it independently and has genuinely learned some animal sounds from it. He also loves the animal-themed songs it plays.

![]() | Sid the Science Kid: Change Happens
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $16.24 Although he's too young to understand the lessons this show provides, my son adores Sid the Science Kid! It does a great job explaining science concepts so that they can be easily understood. Mostly my son just loves the songs - at least one is featured in every episode. I know that when he is a little older and retains the information this science-themed show will give him a head start.

![]() | Bright Starts Tropical Fun Around We Go Activity Station
Buy new: $74.00 This toy allows active babies who can't walk alone the ability to be upright and walk within a relatively confined space. With this toy, the baby walks around a stationary table, which is packed with things to chew on, draw with, and buttons that light up and make noise. When my son could walk on his own, we took off the walker piece and he continued to play with the activity table for months!

![]() | Bright Starts Hop Along Carrier Toy Bar - Neutral
Buy new: $9.99 This was an ideal car seat toy for our son. He could grab at it and spin the characters, and the middle one would light up and play songs. It did not seem repetitive or annoying to us, and kept his attention longer than the vibrating pulltoys did.

![]() | Bright Starts Drop & Giggle
Buy new: $12.00 My son learned the concept of this toy quickly - for 6-9 month-olds, it is a great toy before they are ready for a sorter. You simply drop the balls into any of the holes on this silly giraffe and they spit out the bottom. The noises are cute and funny. This toy encourages hand-eye coordination and understanding of cause and effect.

![]() | Fisher-Price Green Meadows Bouncer
Buy new: $32.05 The beauty of this seat is that when the baby starts to fuss, the kick of his or her legs causes the seat to bounce. The bouncing mechanism, as well as vibrating option that this chair provides, was very calming for our young infant. It was lightweight, inexpensive, and easy to put together. We had more expensive Boppy vibrating chairs that we gave up in favor of this simple bouncer.

![]() | Lamaze Freddie the Firefly
Buy new: $11.49 This toy was small enough to attach to the stroller or car seat but had enough features to keep my little one entertained and happy. He enjoyed it for months. The features include a chewable plastic attachment, a squeaker in one of the wings that responds when you squeeze it, crinkly wings, mirrors, and bright colors and fabrics with varied textures.

![]() | Chicco 4-in-1 Ride On
Buy new: $90.00 My son was in love with this toy the minute he received it for his first birthday. This ride-on adapts to a child's age. There are guard and foot rails and a tall handle for when they are too young to propel themselves, and then those features are removed when they can maneuver themselves. My son loves to ride around collecting pebbles and leaves to store under the seat.

![]() | Boppy Tummy Play Pad - Garden Girl
Buy new: $29.96 My son had the blue version of this lily pad tummy time playmat. You don't necessarily need a special mat for tummy time, but if you intend to get one this is recommended. High quality, soft fabrics, and the small u-shaped pillow with attached colorful toys are the primary features of this mat. It is very lightweight and easily folded or rolled up for storage or travel.
