This plush pet palace has everything to keep all the newly adopted pets from the Littlest Pet Shop collection comfortable and happy. The playset usually comes with a fish and two figures but this exclusive Toys ‘R’ Us version features four additional pets—two cats, a brown puppy, a Dalmatian, a ferret, and a hamster. The dollhouse for pets opens its double doors to reveal a variety of cozy beds and platforms at all levels of the building for dogs and cats to rest on and peek out the adjacent windows. The fish bowl sits right in the center of the room and kids can make the fish swim by sliding the lever up and down and rotating the bowl. A bathing area at one end of the house features a removable shower nozzle and a tub full of suds. Other creative spaces include a fold-down loft bed and a tube that moves the hamster or ferret through to the bed via a lever. There is also a freestanding wheel for the hamster to "run" on as kids turn the lever. All pets are fitted with a magnet in one foot, which allows the hamster to hang onto his wheel or tube platform securely and enables the other animals to stay rooted to their beds, open the toy box, or lower the loft bed (by stepping on the fire hydrant). When play is done, this set folds up for storage or to travel to a friend’s house. --Cristina Vaamonde

Little Girl LOVES this!
My daugther is 5 1/2. She has had these pets and the pet shop for over a year. This is one of the most played with toys she has ever had!! The pets are very cute, their heads wobble and I think it is all very reasonably priced when you purchase the pets separately! Highly recommend. My daugther is very imaginative and loves these little pets and creates so many scenarios. These little pets have followed us from the pet shop to my daugther's doll house, the pool and the tub!
Developing imagination is at least as important as developing knowledge
I am thrilled that I finally found a toy that inspires my 5 year old to create her own stories! While I usually focus on intellectual development with games for her, I found a need to offer something other than crafts to develop her creative imagination play and independent thinking. Works like a charm!
As her collection has grown she has gotten so clever in naming each and every one (32 now, and she remembers every name AND personality they have AND how they relate to each other). Her "play" inspired me to use these little personalities to teach her about different personal interactions she has in school and on the playground (--highly effective for a shy child).
The entire LPS line is a perfect "incentive" for her age group too. I use individual bobbleheads as a bonus for good nutrition choices. Specifically, if my little girl will forgo even asking about going to McD's for crummy food and cheap toys for a whole week, I will give her nutritious food that week and one bobblehead pet. And, heck, at about $2-4 per pet, I save a fortune over those "not-so-happy meals."
There are a few quirky drawbacks... (1) These adorable bobbleheads can be addictive... finding them at different retailers begins to feel like a (fun) scavenger hunt. That's fun doing it that way, but now Ebay sellers seem to be buying up all they can (at the price point fit for a child's small allowance) and CHARGING double to 10 times retail as they try to create a new "beanie baby debacle" out of this toy that should be PLAYED WITH rather than scooped up by adults to make an extra $5.
(2) Because growing the collection is so fun, you can outgrow the limited space in the Playhouse quickly... meaning you might want to plan on the Whirly-twirly playground thingy right from the beginning. Just expect it and set aside the $30 for your collection to grow... because it will. Oh, yes, it surely will! :)
My 6 & 9 year olds LOVE this!
My girls are both BIG fans of Littlest Pet Shop items and have been slowly collecting them. They are begging for a couple of new pieces for the holidays.
They sit and play with them for hours at a time...I give this series 5 stars except for 'educational value' as really there is not much to learn from tiny pets outside of individual play.
I suggest this toy if you have children who love to play pretend (boy OR girl) and love animals! My oldest is 9 and is still going strong in her desire for wanting more of them.
