![]() | North & South
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $24.25 a bit more gritty than some of the others, though a favorite. centers on social discrepancies between northern and southern england. has one of the best endings you can possibly get!
![]() | The Forsyte Saga, Series 1
Buy new: $53.99 / Used from: $27.99 irene borders on infuriating sometimes, but it's still fantastic. one of masterpiece theatre's.. well.. masterpieces.
![]() | The Forsyte Saga, Series 2
Buy new: $34.99 / Used from: $20.99 if you enjoyed forsyte series 1, this is essential. i like it much better than the first, although it is important to watch them in chronological order.
![]() | Pride & Prejudice
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $6.80 really great adaptation. it's difficult to condense the story into two hours, but they did a fantastic job. definitely worth a watch.
![]() | Wives and Daughters
Buy used from: $31.84 based on Elizabeth Gaskell's novel, who also wrote North and South. i personally preferred the plot of n&s over wives and daughters, but it's a great film worth seeing.
![]() | Daniel Deronda
Buy used from: $14.49 dramatic. and surprising. the plot twists and turns so much that one often feels a little left behind, but it's a great story. initially, it seems as though the cast doesn't blend together very well, but by the end, everything comes together.
![]() | Vanity Fair (A&E, 1998)
Buy new: $34.99 / Used from: $3.97 a film that definitely doesn't get enough credit. the soundtrack is a little funky, but the story is great and unlike any other period film. a trillion times better than the most recent version.
![]() | The Way We Live Now
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $24.15 sometimes touching on the side of a little bizarre.. fantastic! absolutely worth a watch.
![]() | Tess of the D'Urbervilles
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $10.14 wonderful; waddell and milburn are fantastic. be warned, though, the entire film is utterly and completely tragic. have some tissues on hand.
![]() | Mansfield Park (1999)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $6.99 admittedly, the plot often strays from the original story line. but, as long as your willing to accept that it's a verrrry loose interpretation of the book, it's a really great one
![]() | Great Expectations (Masterpiece Theatre, 1999)
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $15.99 dark and often chilling, it strays from the typical costume drama style. very bleak, but excellent.
![]() | Henry Fielding's Tom Jones
Buy new: $35.99 / Used from: $2.50 another unappreciated period piece. probably one of my favorites, it clearly conveys the irony that fielding saw in life. great cast, great story, worth it a hundred percent
![]() | Nicholas Nickleby
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $17.85 it's impossible to imagine that James D'arcy, who was the cruel step-brother in Tom Jones, could possibly play a "nice" character. he proves everyone wrong in this film; it's a must-see, though in typical Dickens style, heartbreaking at times.
![]() | Under the Greenwood Tree
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $12.00 i watched this on masterpiece theatre with low expectations.. i was definitely proven wrong. great [and on the shorter side] love story!
