A Must for Anyone Consindering getting the Lap-Band
I found this book to be very easy to read as well as very informative. He managed to keep the medical and surgical details at a level that the lay person could understand, while being very detailed.

This book covers the surgery procedure from pre-op doctor's visits, working with your insurance company and suggestions for self-pay, all the way through the surgery itself, how to eat for the next month, and the post surgery lifestyle. Details include the surgery itself, how the fills are done and possible complications during or after surgery.

I think anyone who is considering the band and the people closest to them should read this book before hand.

Good Overview of Lap-band Surgery
Lap-Band for Life provides a good overview of this form of weight loss surgery by a person who is truly passionate about the procedure and his practice. It introduces a concept that makes many WLS surgeons in the United States quite uncomfortable:

It is possible to obtain your goal weight using the far less invasive (and less expensive) Lap-band surgery.

Many WLS surgeons routinely tell patients "You can't lose all the weight you want with the band." That's simply not true. Many people have and many people do. If you are considering gastric bypass, this book should be on your "must read" list. Please read it before letting a surgeon re-arrange what your favorite deity or evolution (take your pick) created.

That said, it is not a perfectly edited book and is often more conversational in tone than technical. It should not be your only source of information about this surgery, but it should definitely be in your resource list.

Please read this book and research Lap-Band before you commit to a completely irreversible procedure. Contrary to what we were told by a surgeon, the Lap-Band DOES work for the morbidly obese.

If gastric bypass was the ultimate and final, absolutely the best surgical solution to obesity, Carnie Wilson wouldn't be on Celebrity Fit Club.

Personally, I believe the 1-star review of this book written by a supposed medical "editor", but riddled with punctuation, capitalization, and basic grammatical errors is nothing more than a shill for a competing unpublished product.

It is truly ironic that she thinks Dr. Ortiz considers himself a "medical deity". My wife and I spoke with him face to face and he said, "Some surgeons think they're God. I'm not rearranging what God made; I'm just putting a little squeeze on it."

The best Lap-Band info for before and after surgery!!!
Dr. Ortiz explains everything about the surgery in his book in a very easy to read and understandable approach. It is divided into sections so you don't have to read everything at once. I have not been banded yet but he will be doing my surgery on June 28th. Even if he is not your surgeon, this book is very informative and answers all of your questions.
