The microSD card is based on TransFlash, which was developed by SanDisk in cooperation with Motorola and is the world’s smallest flash memory card form factor. SanDisk’s TransFlash cards were recently adopted by the SD Card Association (SDA) and renamed "microSD."

The new microSD card is fully compatible with TransFlash card slots and is designed as a small, flash memory storage card for mobile phones and devices. The company will continue to support existing TransFlash product lines and will transition its handset customers and the retail channel to the renamed microSD card over the next several months.

Currently, the 512MB SanDisk microSD card is the largest capacity available in this form factor. The company expects to have 1GB microSD cards in limited quantities by late Q4 2005 and 2GB cards in 2006.

Works well with my eTrex
I found this is a great upgrade to my Garmin eTrex GPS. The micro SD card slipped right into the slot under the battery cover and let me upload lots and lots of maps. The included 64 MB card really limits the number of maps that can be loaded onto the device. With this I'm yet to run into a space problem.

The one limitation is transfer speed - I'm not sure if it is the device or the card but it takes a LONG time to upload anything close to 512MB to this card via the GPS and I'm yet to find support for a card reader in the Garmin software.

All and all the card has been quite satisfactory.

This item is GREAT!!! This particular size of microSD cards are impossible to find. Found on-line and couldn't be happier with it. Prices are unbeatable, service is fantastic, communication is fantastic. Will use this company again.
