a tale over time and distance5
My daughter, Laura, was a student at Montreal's McGill Univ. and came home at Christmas time with a tape. When I asked about it, she told me she had gone into a flower shop off St. Denis and heard this, was charmed and asked after the performer. She was told it was a copy of a tape with no ID or credit to the player and she asked if she could get a copy, was told if she left her drivers license and taped it herself and brought it back, "Yeah Sure!"
So I got a tape, of a tape, of a tape, but no name or credit for the music, 20 years ago!.
A few moths back, we were out with friends at a South American restaurant in London, Ont. and in the back ground I heard this music and said to one and all, Oh Wow, thats the music from Laura's tape! The waiter kindly copied down the name on the music ( CD by now) and I sent off to Amazon for it... Performer/Musicians name, Gino D' Auri and got another Auri Cd, which I love and treasure.
Went to Oslo this fall to see that same daughter and, 20 some years later brough her the original!! which we both love, great, great music and incredible talent!!

Magnificent CD5
For me, this is one of the absolute top flamenco guitar albums of all times. With a blend of rhytmical and soft passages Gino demonstrates his superior guitar playing skills. It's intense, sensitive, powerful, and could be listened to just for the sound of the recording. I think I've learned by heart all the small melodic patterns in the recording over the years. His later recordings lack the originality and intensity of this one, in my point of view. They're are compromised with too much New Agey softness and floating keyboard pads. This is the real stuff...
