Undoubtedly the first movie in history to have played in theaters with three different endings (depending on which theater you attended), Clue is a silly whodunit based on the familiar board game featuring Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, and all the other usual suspects. A broadly comic cast play the sundry suspects gathered in a mansion to solve a murder, knowing that one of their numbers is the culprit. Michael McKean, Eileen Brennan, and Tim Curry are the best of the bunch, and the film is as lightweight an experience as a round of the game itself. Directed by Jonathan Lynn (My Cousin Vinny). The video release contains all three endings. --Tom Keogh

Funny "who done it"? with several twists
If you like the boardgame, this is a must. The characters, are truly "characters" and they'll make you snicker countless times. It's a classic "who done it" fun ride until the end. It has a classic "theater" feel, and the characters are what old "Sherlock Holmes" type films are made of. Neat film with cool performences!
'It's Not Just A Game...Anymore'!!!
I think Clue: The Movie is really funny and a good adaptation of the classic board game. I love that it all takes place on a dark and stormy night. All the actors did a really good job. Mr. Green, Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, Miss Scarlet, Mrs. White, and Mrs. Peacock all receive a letter to come to Hill House. Wadsworth the Butler greets them and lets them all get to know each other. During dinner, Mr. Boddy shows up and claims he doesn't know what he's doing there. After dinner, Wadsworth lets them all know why they are there; they are all being blackmailed by Mr. Boddy. After they all know, Mr. Boddy gives them weapons to kill Wadsworth with. Little did everyone know, in another room, the very sexy maid, Yvette was recording the conversation. After he turns out the lights, Mr. Boddy is murdered! Throughout the movie, all the guests try to figure out who killed him in which room with which weapon. Who did kill him? If you love murder mysteries, comedy, and sexy maids, you'll love CLUE!!!
Get a clue; get this movie...
Quite possibly one of the best ensemble pieces ever, `Clue' is one of my favorite comedies of all time. It perfectly captures the essence of the beloved board game in a hilarious romp of whodunits that keeps the audience guessing (and laughing) until the very end.
It's very true that `Clue' could have gone one of two ways. It could have been a very intricate murder mystery (I'm thinking Agatha Christie inspired) or it could have been a fast paced comedy. You guessed it; they went to comedy route, and who can blame them. Taking the standard whodunit and flipping it on its back with joke after joke, laugh after laugh, gag after gag; `Clue' has become a classic comedy that has a special place in the hearts of almost everyone who has seen it.
The film starts with a group of people attending a dinner party. Each guest has been personally invited by the surprise host, asking them to answer only to a codename (Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock ect.). Once they have all arrived they are introduced to Mr. Body, a man who has been blackmailing all of them individually for certain indiscretions. Once the lights are out though, Mr. Body hits the floor and the guests are now in a panic trying to figure out who it was that killed their blackmailer. As the night progresses the body count rises and the panic increases.
Like I said, this is an ensemble piece to conquer all ensemble pieces. Really, each and every actor holds their own and delivers a hilarious performance that elevates the film to classic status.
Christopher Lloyd is hysterical as the horn-dog Professor Plum and Michael McKean is great as the `is he or isn't he' Mr. Green. Martin Mull handles Colonel Mustard with gravitas, making him the bulldog of the pack. He's no where near as funny as the rest of the cast, but he adds a layer of serious intensity to the film. Of the men though, it is Tim Curry that nails it. As Wadsworth, the butler, Curry is hilariously on-point, delivering gag after gag with effortless ease. His final reenactment of the evening's murders is probably the funniest scene in the entire film and his dynamic energy takes the films already comedic tone to a whole new level.
But, in all honesty, this film belongs to the females.
Eileen Brennan, Lesley Ann Warren and Madeline Kahn are definitely the films major players, all three of them devouring their characters whole. Lesley Ann Warren is devilishly sensual as the `Madame' Miss Scarlet, enticing every man that comes in contact with her. Eileen Brennan is utterly hysterical as Mrs. Peacock. Her antics are brilliantly charismatic and her screams are just side splittingly funny. It's Madeline Kahn though, that really owns this movie.
"FLAMES. . .on the SIDE OF MY FACE. . .HEAVING breaths. . ."
Yes, Kahn's line readings are some of the best in the bunch, and her timing and delivery is flawless. She makes Mrs. White the most interesting and most unforgettable face in the film.
So, the verdict; `Clue' is a gem and one that everyone should cherish. Honestly, there are few films this gifted with talent and bursting at the seams with jokes that actually land.
