Puttering away after one pull
I bought a similar ETQ generator (5 250 W) yesterday at Wallmart for 600$ (canadian $). As I picked it up at the store there were no shipping charges to pay for.
After I put oil and gas in, one easy pull was enough to start it at - 4 C (28 Farenheit). I ran it for a full tank of gas to break it in and it puttered on without hesitations for a total of about 15 hours on the 6.8 US gallons tank of gas. For this breaking in of the motor, I ran it without an electric charge. I put in synthetic high grade 5-W30 oil as the salesman told me it was more fluid and thus easier to start particularly in the winter cold.
With an electric charge, from the test that I have done, the generator should run for about 11.5 hours as a backup unit with a full gas tank.
The 5 250 W ETQ generator doesn't have an electric start motor contrary to the generator on this present site. However, it is easy to start with the manual crank. I guess that without an electric start you forgo the cost and weight of the added electric start motor. This must explain part of the low price of the generator.
It is sturdily built. You need to mount the wheels and handle, put oil and gas in when bought new.
I bought the generator for a backup for an eventual winter hydro electric failure. With 5 250 Watts of continuous running power (6 000 W surge), the generator is sufficient to power the oil furnace fan, the refrigerator, two other important electric circuits (the computer!), and even the electric water heater which requires 4 000 Watts.
Cost wise, at 600 $ it is a great buy for a backup generator.
Great Price, Great Item, Stellar Service
I received my generator 2 weeks ago. The price for the generator was 479.00 at the time I purchased it. I see that it has gone up since then. I can only say that this is a GREAT product. It does everything they say it does and more. It was shipped by and delivered to me by ABF Freight. There was no charge for shipping at the time of my order. The driver took it off the truck and brought it right into my garage. I was expecting it to be dropped in the road. ABF Freight is the BEST!
A couple of things to note: The item did not come with a battery, although it shows on the site that it does. I contacted Amazon about it and they had me pick out a battery from their site. They immediately credited the price of the battery to my account. They didn't pass me off to someone else or say just return the whole unit and we will reship another one to you with the battery. They just solved the problem-way to go Amazon.com. You just don't see that level of service anymore. Amazon.com is the only way to go!
Also, there are no directions for assembly of the wheel kit. If you are a little bit mechanically inclined it will be no problem to assemble. The best thing to do is assemble the whole unit first and save the wheel kit for last. That way when you finish everything else the left over parts will be for the wheel kit and it all should become clear at that point.
The site and the product manual both differ in the size of the fuel tank. I can tell you that my came with a 5+ gallon tank. I put all of five gallons in it and there was still room for a little space at the top. The fuel tank also has a gauge so you can see how much fuel is in it without opening the tank. With a five plus gallon tank that will give me plenty of run time between fill ups.
The unit runs great and is very quiet. 10 feet from the house and with the door closed we could barely hear it from inside.
Again this was a great buying experience. I no longer have to worry when the power goes out. Just pull out the unit and fire it up!!!
This generator is well worth the 579.00. It is even better at the 479.00 that I got it for! Thanks again Amazon.com. I remain a true and loyal most happy customer.
