Customer Reviews

Mostly average with Island of Assassins being the stand out4
This is the second collection of Lupin the 3rd movies. Lupin the 3rd is a master thief that can't resist a good challenge. He is supported by a charasmatic group of characters that are almost as clever as he is. Lupin is constantly being chased by Inspector Zenigata. An interpol agent that has dedicated his life to bringing Lupin to justice.

Lupin is an anime that is chock full of comedy and adventure. The best introduction to Lupin the 3rd would be Miyazaki's Castle of Cagliostro. That is Lupin at it's best. The only drawback would be after seeing CoC, you will never look at another Lupin movie the same. Although not on the same level as CoC. The movies are still entertaining even though most are average. I'll briefly describe each.

Missed by a Dollar

Lupin steals a ring from an auction. Another gang with big plans also wants the ring. This puts Lupin in a deadly situation. The movie follows the basic formula delivering crazy car chases, action, & comedy. Nothing special here and doesn't break any new ground. 3/5

Crisis in Tokyo

Lupin is in pursuit of another treasure. He begins his next quest by trying to rip off Zenigata for a briefcase. A briefcase that Zenigata delivers to a wealthy terrorist. Lupin thrusts himself into danger again. This is a very good movie. Characters are used very well, outstanding animation, good comedy, chase scenes, and action. 4/5

The Columbus Files

The Columbus Files contains info on a treasure that is mostly myth. Lupin and the crew is up against another group that is after the same treasure. The comedy and animation are the strengths, to include a good ending. Jigen and Goemon's presence add alot. Secondary characters are unintersting. 3/5

Farewell to Nostradamus

After a successful heist. Lupin and Jigen encounter Fujiko. She tells them about her much bigger score. It involves breaking into a vault only one person ever got into and was caught in seconds. The main plot is a bit deeper than the usual heist. The good points are the action, comedy and secondary characters are well used. 3/5

Island of Assassins

Lupin and Zenigata are set up by a mystery foe. They soon witness a bloody raid and an assassination. Lupin then encounters an organization who has a rule to kill all of their enemies. This is the biggest reason to get this set. IoA is by far the darkest and most brutal Lupin movie. The action scenes and plot twist make this the best of the collection and almost on par with Castle of Cagliostro. 5/5

This is a decent set of movies with 2 being must sees. The other three aren't bad but if someone says they're all great. To me, they're lying and not in reality. I would give this a 3.5 at best. The Lupin movies tend to follow the same formula a bit too much. There's nothing too wrong with that. If they can make it interesting and excel in different areas. Which is what Island of Assassins and Crisis in Tokyo does very well. This boxset contains movies 6-10 in three thin pack cases.

OK - but Miyazaki it aint3
I thought these were Miyazaki films after seeing the Castle of Cagliostro - sadly they're not. Good fun but not in the master's league.

Great fun.5
I liked every episode in this set. The cast is great and the voice acting is top notch. I would highly recommend this box set. I am not new to Anime. I have been watching it for over 17 years. This may not have the flash of many other Anime titles but it still has style.
