We borrow the Way Things Work videos (by Schlessinger Media) from our local library to accompany the books, Lego Dacta Mini sets (Lego kit #'s W919610, W919616, W919614, w919622)and Constructions for Children by Barbara Eichelberger and Connie Larson (ISBN: 086651627121200)

Ages 9-12. I can't wait to give this one a try! History and construction all in one book!

Ages 9-Adult. A very dry series. You have to supplement it with more interesting activities and/or books and videos. We use it in conjunction with the Muzzy Spanish Program.

This book has an enormous amount of information in it. If you need a book for building fine motor skills and correcting handwriting problems be sure you get this one. There are reproducible pages for handwriting practice, fine motor skill activities galore, and tips on correct pencil grips and handwriting postures.

Approximately 1st-3rd grade. We use this (and volume 2) with Building Spelling Skills series by Evan-Moor. The format is intimidating at first. It looks complicated but it really isn't. It also encourages regular use of the dictionary.

2nd-3rd grade. We use the Magic Tree House (MTH) books for reading practice. There are 10 chapters in each book and over 30 titles in the series. This equals over one year of reading practice if you read one chapter a day. If you search the net you can find a quiz for just about every book in the series.

We used this entire series to introduce classic stories and a little history. Books are as follow: 1- The One Eyed Giant 2- Land of The Dead 3- Sirens and Sea Monsters 4- The Gray Eyed Goddess 5- Return To Ithaca 6- The Final Battle

NOT and Ecnylopedia! Even better, this is an introduction to Ancient History for 6-12 year olds. There are fun projects throughout the book to help add interest to the subject matter. It's a hefty 256 pages long and over sized too! There are many illustrations. If you read it from cover to cover and picked a few projects to do from each section you would have months of study.

These kits contain maps, letters, posters, "official" documents of the time (like a ration book or quarantine notice), and some other interesting things. There are 6 total in the series of Primary Resource Kits: Immigration, Civil War, Colonial America, World War Ii, Civil Rights, and Westward Movement.

You must have some historical maps for teaching history. This one is for US History and is packed with information as well as beautiful maps.

This is a fantastic reference book on US History. A must have for teaching American History.

All the Brain Quest flip books are good for practice and getting a general idea of what information you children should know based upon grade level. We use Brain Quest Geography (Out of Print) and Brain Quest Math daily with curriculum.

This is not a homeschool curriculum. The elementry levels are easy to use without owning a teacher's guide (just get the student text). It's organized and based upon the elements and principals of art (one activity per element and principle). There is also discussion of what is art, how to identify the subject, various forms of artistic expression, and use of materials.

Ages 6-Adult. This is written in a very conversational (and enjoyable) style. While reading aloud, you may have to stop and explain some things to younger children. It is still a very informative and enjoyable book! Older editions, with blk./wht. photos, can usually be supplemented with their color representations found on the internet.

Ages 9-Adult

Ages 5-10. All of Lois Burdett's Shakespeare for Kids books are wonderful! They tell Shakespeare's stories with a child's perspective. Illustrations and examples are from children's school projects. May be a bit too simple for children over 3rd grade level. This is the best nature reference book ever. Just about any basic knowledge you ever wanted about bugs, lizards, rocks, ponds.......and more in this book. It's as thick as a dictionary. So paying only $26.00 for a new copy is even a modest price.
