This breezy beginner's guide to healthy, conscientious living from health and nutrition expert Waxman (Ten Steps to Strengthening Health) offers a number of attitudes and techniques for improving health, most notably a diet high in grains and other macrobiotics. Despite nearly 40 years of clean living, the former junk food addict is still able to connect in a direct manner with those just starting on the road to health. More a philosophy than a regimen, Waxman's seven steps encourage devotees to become more self-probing and self-aware. His rules include thinking about the contents of daily meals, eating two or three balanced meals every day centered around grains, and to eat slowly, chewing well. While much of his advice is practical (some might call it common sense), unusual (but harmless) tactics stretch credulity (a daily 10-15 minute rub-down with a warm, wet cotton cloth promises "beautiful, new and younger looking skin"). Other rules include never reheating leftover vegetables, wearing only cotton clothing and a rather complicated system for figuring out which cooked foods can be mixed together on a plate. Few recipes are provided, so those looking for a variety of macrobiotic dishes will be better served elsewhere. Open-minded readers may find the book revelatory, but skeptics may also be swayed by Waxman's disarming charm.

The Best Introduction to Macrobiotics and Living as Designed
Denny Waxman's *The Great Life Diet* has the virtues of simplicity, brevity, clarity, and practicality. He writes in an engaging, calm voice that radiates the common sense and flexibility his decades of experience have given his recommendations. This is anything but an invitation to an ascetic Japanese food cult. Rather than austerity, Mr. Waxman lays out a way of eating as we are designed for greater health that you can create empirically from your experience rather than rigidly from locked-on ideology. His success in helping people reverse "terminal" illnesses using diet and life-style is no surprise after reading this book which supplants Carolyn Heidenry's *Introduction to Macrobiotics* as the best one-stop reference for living and eating according to traditional principle and human design. I recommend it without reservation.
Concise book about getting started with a new lifestyle
My wife and I went to Denny Waxman for macrobiotic counseling on the recommendation of a friend, as my wife was diagnosed with cancer. We were very impressed with his recommendations for her specific health issues, and we have seen immediate results.
Denny's book, "The Great Life Diet," is wonderful in explaining concisely and accessibly how macrobiotics works and about the lifestyle changes involved. The best thing is that Denny highlights each chapter at the end, an extremely helpful technique.
This book should be read by everyone, even those not interested in macrobiotics, for its enlightening focus on healthy living.

Denny will show you HOW in the simpliest of ways and if you only adopt one or two of these life changing habits, you will have gained a victory towards the greater good of the earth and for your own well-being. Please do not miss out in making this small difference. I also enjoyed Denny's great delivery and clear message, lacking in many books dealing with health today. I personally have seen a tremendous change in many ways in my life for the better after using these principles. Reading his book clearly shows Denny Waxman's great wisdom backed up by years of personal experienced and time tested with his many clients throughout the world. I feel so lucky to have found a reading where I can experience a kind of natural satisfaction, expanding my freedom and widen my thinking.
