Editorial Reviews

While Gershwin gets top billing here, Previn's the one commanding center stage with his most striking jazz outing since returning to the idiom. His ingenuous arrangements, for one, have acquired organic urgency, such as the elemental "Bartok-boogie" treatment of "They All Laughed," or the quirky recasting of "I Got Rhythm." Light-fingered Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson passages take unexpected, asymmetrical detours fraught with risk. Each selection rings out with unfettered interplay and a genuine joy in discovery. Previn and Finck anticipate and play off each other's ideas like a team of well-rehearsed pickpockets. When you buy this disc, hold onto your wallet! --Jed Distler

On all 14 tracks, Mr. Previn plays with a slinky flexibility uncommon in classical pianists.... Mr. Finck is also a master of the style, slapping the bass with an enviable combination of naturalness and precision.

Real Talent Always Shines!5
The music of Gershwin interpreted by the talent of Previn, what more could you ask for? The recording is crisp and with depth which is important in the areas of Finisk's double base solos. Put it on, turn down the lights and just listen....

Intimate performance5
Andre Previn is probably the most relevant Gershwin performer out there. He captures Gershwin intensity and understands that his music has elements of both academic and jazz music. This is key to really make the performance shine. Gershwin music has been performed by almost any classica piano player and by many orchestras around the world. This new recordings by Previn on piano and David Finck on bass present a joyful and intimate performace that makes you feel like you where listening to the performace inside the studio at the time these were recorded. Its a very enjoyable CD with bold arregements. In a way, these could interpretations that Gershwin himself would enjoy

'S Wonderful5
This is a marvelous record. Previn and Fink are clearly enjoying themselves and their spontaneity and verve are infectious. The recording is quite natural too. This is loads of fun.
