Stay Away!1
Don't waste your money. If you are wondering how could ice bake a cake, here is your answer... It doesn't! My daughter and I tried 3 seperated times, following directions exactly and all three times we ended up with two small cups of cookie dough like substance. Suggested wait time is aprox 12 minutes... over a half hour later it looked the same as it did when it went in. Do yourself a favor and skip this toy!

Worked for us!4
I bought this for my 3 year old's birthday, knowing that both her and my 5 year old love to help me in the kitchen and would enjoy their own oven toy. I was curious and skeptical how ice could "cook" the batter. We used the vanilla cake mix and followed the directions exactly. The little cupcakes came out perfectly. We used the vanilla frosting mix also, which made a tiny amount but was just enough for the 2 little cakes. My 5 year old loved the taste of them, the 3 year old wasn't quite as impressed. I tasted a tiny bit myself, and it was interesting. The texture was like a spongy cake, but it was pretty salty tasting. Okay for a little treat though, since they are small. Honestly I don't think the ice or oven is even needed to make the mixes. Because they are gelatin based, it was almost "cooked" before I even got it in the oven. That's why it says to quickly put the batter in the pans. Overall, I think it's a cute little toy that my girls will enjoy for a while.

I picked this up at a thrift shop brand new in the box for seven bucks. They also had the cake mixes. My daughter loves it. Although not surprised, I can't find the mixes anywhere now. The cakes tasted horrible anyway so we devised a mix of (3) tablespoons of milk and (1) tablespoon of instant pudding mix. Obviously it worked out great because it is a cool oven and instant pudding sets very fast. We also bought sprinkles and other decorations. The girls eat them out of the cups. Basically, the idea is still there without the awful tasting original mixes.

I love the idea of this toy for several reasons: My daughter won't get burned, it's something she can play creativly with and she can "cook" real edible food with the satisfaction that she made this herself. She proudly displays her cooking and understands that "a good cook always cleans up their mess". Overall, I highly recommend this toy, but DITCH THE ORIGINAL MIXES, use the instant pudding and purchase your own sprinkles and decorations.
