![]() | Sweet Anticipation: Music and the Psychology of Expectation (Bradford Books) by David Huron

![]() | The Quantum Brain: The Search for Freedom and the Next Generation of Man by Jeffrey Satinover
Buy new: $10.85 / Used from: $2.75 Satinover's got a unique background - he's a physicist, a teacher, and a practicing psychiatrist with a deep understanding of neurology. This books walks you (quickly) through the basics of the last 50 years of research in neurology and neural computing and then launches into some fascinating possibilities. Hard work but worth the read. Take notes in the margin.

![]() | Proust Was a Neuroscientist by Jonah Lehrer
Buy new: $16.32 / Used from: $3.91 At first this book seemed a little lightweight but I learned to appreciate the unique perspective Jonah Lehrer provides as a student of both neurology and 20th century literature. The basic premise is that Proust, Whitman, Stravinsky and others foresaw or "sensed" some neurological discoveries that were not fully understood until decades later.

![]() | Linked: How Everything Is Connected to Everything Else and What It Means by Albert-Laszlo Barabasi
Buy new: $10.40 / Used from: $5.90 "Linked" is a little off topic for my neurology/music obsession but many of Barabasi's network evolution concepts resonate with how the network between your ears has evolved.

![]() | Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain by Oliver Sacks
Buy new: $17.16 / Used from: $3.00 Very interesting stories about music cognition, neurlogical abnormalities, and the brain but not a lot of depth (if that's what you want). To me, there's a little bit too much of a side-show spirit to Sacks' books ("look over here..check out what happened to this guy!). All in, this book provides a great introduction into the way the brain processes music.

![]() | On Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins
Buy used from: $8.34 From the POV of a great computer engineer, this is a fascinating book about the brain, neural networks, and related topics. All the more readable because of the obvious passion that Hawkins puts into this topic.

![]() | The Cognitive Neuroscience of Music
Buy new: $80.95 / Used from: $66.21 Deep dive into the brain and music. If you've read "Sweet Anticipation" and still want to go deeper, this is the book. Lots of research. Borderline reference book.
