The "Lawrence Of Arabia" of comedy. And that really says it all doesn't it?
The Last of SheilaThe Last of Sheila

Like many of my favorites, it bears up under repeated viewings easily. Think of it as "Sleuth" meets "All About Eve".

Do not miss. Dark, dark musical take on thirties realism and fantasy.
Stardust MemoriesStardust Memories

A deep examination of Allen's feelings of anhedonia (where one is inable to feel joy). Yet funny, touching and an amazing Charlotte Rampling performance.

I've included a Welles film in my list, but it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I decided it's really this film from late in his career that I love the most. Sly, witty and definitely egocentric, it is everything I tend to enjoy in an Orson Welles movie in this "cinematic essay" on frauds and fakers.
Miller's CrossingMiller's Crossing

Has Jon Polito ever been better? I think not.

In "Hail...", you will never see a comedy this willing to take on so many sacred cows and yet so sincerely in love with the decency of humanity again. And did I mention it's very, very funny?
Rio Bravo (Two-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition)Rio Bravo (Two-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $35.99 / Used from: $6.98
If I had to choose between "Rio Bravo" and "The Searchers", I would probably come down on the side of the one with Dino, pally. With John Wayne, Angie Dickinson, Ricky Nelson, and Walter Brennan.
Funny BonesFunny Bones
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.58
I cannot explain this film without sounding like a raving lunatic, or more like one than I usually do. It stars Oliver Platt, Oliver Reed, Leslie Caron, the mighty Lee Evans and the awesome Jerry Lewis.

Come for the liberal quotes of Algonquin Round Table quips, stay for the melancholy. A dvd for a rainy day.
