Another good beginners book by Gordon. What I like about this one in particular is that he spends a lot more time discussing strategy for playing cash games, rather than tournaments. This book features more hand examples in which Gordon walks through his thinking step-by-step. This would be a great poker book to read on a plane or a subway.

Another great read on limit hold'em. The book is a bit dry and academic, but it's rich with sound strategy on winning low-limit hold'em. Jones' book is a better read, but this makes for another useful book on beating low-limit games.

This is really the second part of Vol.1. I consider Harrington on Hold'em 1 & 2 to be one long book on tournament strategy. Together, they provide some essential concepts for playing smart, aggressive tournaments and not allowing yourself to get blinded away,

Personally, I've found the advice in this book on picking up tells and reads on your opponent to be very hit-and-miss, but there's enough interesting stuff here that I give this book a recommendation. Just pay heed to Navarro's warnings that you should never base all your decisions on "tells" -- use these tools to help narrow down your read on a situation.

Ok, this book can be dry, mathematical, and tedious in spots, but it's a great read if you want to get into some fundemental theory that can improve your skills at all poker games, not just hold'em.
