Set a few years after the defeat of Megatron in the first game/movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen reveals that the threat from the Decepticons is in fact, far from ended. Since the time of the epic and apparently not so final battle between the two Transformer leaders, Decepticons have started popping up again all over Earth in alarming numbers. And now, a mysterious object from space seems destined to shift the balance of power and give the upper hand to the Decepticons. Mission-centric Gameplay Unlike Activision's Transformers: The Game, released along side the original movie back in 2007, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen relies less on open-world gameplay and more on structured, but varied mission play. The variety in these missions comes from the fact that players can align themselves with either the Autobots or Decepticons, and that the available missions both parallel the events of the movie, as well as events unique to the game. During these missions players will be able to play as a variety of different Transformers from either side of the conflict, and with success in mission play will be able to unlock additional Transformers and earn points used to upgrade your selected faction. Playable characters include on the Autobot side: Optimus Prime, Iron Hide, Breakaway, Bumblebee, and Ratchet; and from the Decepticon side: Starscream, Sideways (a new character), Grindor, Long Haul, and Megatron. The game features a simple control toggle that not only allows for quick switching between mech, vehicle and weapon forms, but also allows for a more easy learning curve of the acrobatic moves from the movie. Avoid the temptation
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a game based loosely on the movie of the same name. The Wii version was produced by Krome Studios and was developed alongside the PS2 version. (The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions were developed separately from this one.) While a game like this might seem to appeal to fans of the series, the reality is that this is an aggravating and disappointing Transformers entry that should be avoided at all costs.
The problems with this game are legion. The graphics seem like a step back from the Traveller's Tales-produced Transformers: The Game, with bland backgrounds and jerky animation. The ranged weapons are difficult to aim and are underpowered to boot, frequently forcing players into melee combat. The melee controls are a chore, thanks to insensitive motion detection that forces players to shake the Wii Remote so hard it gets painful quickly. The level design is linear, with most areas consisting of fighting spawns of repetitive enemies, moving a short distance, then fighting more of the same enemies. The plot only broadly covers the movie, although Shia LeBeof haters will be pleased to know that he is virtually absent from this game. Topping it all off is the baffling fact that this is a *Transformers* game but you rarely get to do any actual *transforming* outside of two or three on-rails racing / flying sequences.
At four hours, the game is pretty brief, and it's a pretty aggravating four hours at that. There are some extras, such as concept art and videos, but they don't come close to justifying this game's retail price tag. Whatever your level of devotion for the Transformers franchise, don't let the glorious Optimus boxart fool you -- stay far, far away.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for Nintendo Wii
Now I am not a dedicated video gamer, but this is a pretty decent game. It was not very difficult to conquer, I believe it only took about 3 hours, but it has a fun story line and allows you to play with both Autobots and Decepticons. A feature I thought added to the overall enjoyability of the game was that a 2nd person can play as a "secondary weapon" helping the main character through the missions either by firing a cannon, or putting up a shield to protect, and also feeding him energy if needed. Overall a fun game, especially for the younger crowd.
This could of been great. Ok could of been good at best.
I bought this game off notion that a site like IGN posted it was going to be one of the hot games of the summer to get and boy were they wrong as they ended up giving it a horrible review.
I could handle the overly linear level design and PS2 quality graphics if the motion controls were more responsive. You literally have flail your arm so violently it will cause pain in your wrist and forearm. The point and shoot interface was decent but the way the camera is set up makes it hard to hit some of your enemies which are shooting at you but they are offscreen because of the locked in camera angles.
I had high hopes for this as Krome got recognition for having good motion controls in the Force Unleashed. Its really a pity when a developer and its publisher take a lazy way out.
