| Judaism is known to most modern non-Jews as a "monotheistic" religion, but Jews themselves often call it "monoatrous" -- that is, the Jewish schriptures recognize the existence of other dieites, ut Jews are instructed to place no other god "before" JHVH. Some modern Jews go farther, and reclaim for themselves the pre-priestly form of Judaism, when goddeses and gods were included within the culture. This "reclaiming of the Jewish goddess" is not Orthodox Judaism, but it represents a vital sub-curent within modern Jewish thought. | ||
