What sets this sander apart from the ever-growing pack of random orbitals is Bosch’s new Microfilter dust filtration system, which the maker says will trap particles 60 times smaller than a human hair. Eight dust ports on the pad surface extract the material up into the filter, keeping it out of your lungs. The sander itself, a palm model, is relatively lightweight and comfortable in hand, thanks to the ergonomic soft grip, yet the 2.2 amp motor will power rotations from 7,000 to 12,000 RPM with a turn of the speed adjustment dial. The variable speeds offer you a range of applications, from serious stock removal all the way up to fine finishing. Bosch says it’s swirl free, but you’ll still want to use caution when starting up to avoid those swirl marks. It’s inexpensive enough for the home do-it-yourselfer or hobby woodworker to own one, yet we can easily see this in a professional shop with Bosch’s long life and superior quality.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
From the Manufacturer
True to the Bosch commitment to develop products that enricha woodworker's shop while creating a more fulfilling experience, the new Bosch 1295DVSK 5-inch random orbit palm sander offers superior cleanliness, speed, and control. The 1295DVSK has a variable speed setting of 2.2 amps and a range of 7,000 to 12,000 rpm's. As a premier enhancement the new micro filter traps more dust, including particles as small as 0.50 Um, or the equivalency of a-piece of dust 60 times smaller than a human hair, resulting in less airborne dust, cleaner air, and a more pleasant workplace. Bosch sanders have the most efficient removal rate in their class due to their wide-eccentric offset - this provides rapid stock removal, thereby reducing work time required for large surface preparation. The 1295DVSK also has an ergonomic soft grip allowing comfortable control and a more secure grip. The unit includes medium backing pad, pad wrench; 5 mm hex, sanding disc, micro filter and carrying case.

Exceeds your expectations for dust free sanding and controls
I purchased this to replace my old 1295D unit. I thought it would be similar but I was wrong. Bosch apparently redesigned the whole insides. It vacuums more dust into the new pleated filter dust collector. The variable speed give you speeds lower and higher than the single speed. High speed allows you to really remove material in a hurry, and the low speeds with very fine paper allows you to buff finishes between coats. Don't scrimp on your palm sander. Pay the little extra the variable speed is worth ever... I am continually pleased with the value and quality I get with the Bosch products.
nice sander
I bought this sander because my palm sander just wouldn't do the job on some of the harder woods and I am hesitant to use a belt sander on my smaller projects. I have not been disappointed using this sander so far. It does a good job with rapid removal on hardwoods (maple, cherry, mahogany, cocobolo) when using the more aggressive grits. It will also product a nice finish ready for final hand sanding with 320 and 600 grit. It is not too loud, it is a sander after all. The vibration is very tolerable and it is easy to control it's movements. the dust collection is adequate since I use it outdoors, not sure how it will be in an enclosed space. The dust collection adapter available on amazon is ok but the sander is a bit more awkward when you attach it ito a vaccuum hose. Most of the time I just make sure to open the garage door and stand close to it so the dust that escapes blows outside. The hook and loop setup holds the paper more securely then I thought it would, no complaints there. It feels nice and solid when you pick it up and when in use. I have addressed Bosch carrying cases in other reviews and this one is as good as the others. Nice fit for the tools and a couple of sheets of paper, and the locking clips are metal and are very secure compared to the plastic clips on some cases I have seen. The only reasons I gave this tool 4 stars is because of the dust collection adapter awkwardness. If you ignore that small issue this is a 5 star tool. I would recommend this item to anyone wanting a small sander capable of moderate to fine sanding work.
No Major Complaints Here
Solid, quiet, seemingly well made. Variable speed is a great feature and I use it more than I expected to.The efficiency of the dust collection is questionable, but I didn't expect much. Without a vaccuum attached, dust collection is commonly more of a concept than a reality. Nice that it comes with a case, though the fit is a bit tight when the cord is coiled up and I spend more time fussing with it than I'd like. That's a pretty minor complaint, though. Overall I love Bosch tools, with the possible exception of my Bosch router (refer to that review for specifics. If you're interested, that is.)
